In the vast reaches of the multiverse, there exists a force that has spread across countless worlds to be tapped into by certain individuals utilizing specific devices. This dimension, betwixt and between other universes, is a repository for knowledge and power from across the cosmos, granting those that can wield its might and channel its energy the ability to affect great change upon their environment. This is called the "Morphin Grid", and those that typically access what it holds are usually referred to as "Rangers".
However, while most that utilize the Morphin Grid tend to be on the side of good, the Grid itself is neither good nor evil, and on rare instances, there have been those who have tapped into the Grid to carry out malicious acts of their own. One particular infamous case involved a version of one of the greatest supervillains in the multiverse, the mighty self-proclaimed "Emperor of Evil", Lord Zedd. In this reality, he had been defeated and stripped of most of his power, but managed to get access to one of the devices that can utilize the power of the Morphin Grid, typically called a "Morpher". Unleashing that force to recharge himself and repair the damage done to his body, he became the Z Ranger, a pariah amongst his fellow villains, yet uniquely suited to help other Rangers in crises that would follow soon after...
But that is a story for another day, merely context that provided the spark of inspiration for another supervillain, the heiress to a vast space empire that had been brought to its knees by yet another faction of Rangers. Trakeena was an alien princess of the formidable Scorpius, whose domain stretched across the heavens and had lorded over that region of the universe for millennia. This all would change when a colony vessel from the planet of Earth, the Terra Venture, would have a chance encounter with a set of mystical blades called Quasar Sabers that could tap into various cosmic energy sources, such as the Morphin Grid. The ensuing battle as the Terra Venture crossed Scorpius' empire would see the mighty warlord killed, his armies and navies laid bare, and Trakeena forced to assume his place in command, and therefore undergo a metamorphosis into her adult form.
This change would result in her leaving behind her more human-like appearance to be transformed into a disgusting insectoid monster, until the Rangers exhausted the last of their arsenal to seemingly destroy her, but she would still survive, albeit heavily scarred and damaged, which is where the divergence comes from. As she recuperated, she would instead utilize the remnants of the Rangers' destroyed weapons to figure out how to reach into the Morphin Grid and use that to "de-morph" out of her ruined insectoid body. This left her heavily scarred, but back to looking like a human, though she did not quite understand what she had created in the process. As mentioned before, the Morphin Grid is a repository of knowledge, and Trakeena, by linking herself with the Grid, had infused it with her own essence and memories, creating something waiting for the right moment to emerge. This new being, a Ranger seeking someone to don her and use her power, would call herself the "Queen Ranger", and try to find a proper host to become whole once more, hoping to bequeath her "Meta Transmorpher" upon an unsuspecting human...
