The Item Pinata! (Mutant Penguin Body-Swap)
NOT MY ART!
Woah, hey there! Halloween is two days away, so have this evil Jam! May Candy finished this the day after I did the panel, so sadly could not include it! Regardless, I can still show it off and it's AMAZING! It's Jam body-swapped with a Rag Rappy from my favorite childhood game, Phantasy Star Online!
I wrote a fun little story for it! Also, in the story I reference Return To Ragol in this story! This was a hack I really gotta get back into, but what it does is manipulate the values of the GameCube version of the game to greatly increase the drop rate and decreases the difficulty. Essentially, it makes solo play far more viable and features several fixes and patches (like a shared bank, Sabers hitting multiple targets, multiple different palettes for equipping moves, etc.). Not sponsored by the mod-maker or anything, just really like it! If you wanna try solo in PSO, this is your go-to~
And lastly, if you like my work please consider supporting me on Patreon! I'm trying to go independent so any bit helps, plus there's going to be a painting TF TG going up on there tonight and it'll be exclusive to there for a bit~
Haunted Jammoween Tales #5
The monkey noticed you as he played GameCube. He sighed, “Oh crap, I wasn’t expecting you here so soon, I just put one out right before this! Okay, let’s see… This is one about Phantasy Star Online, I guess? Let’s call it…”
The Item Pinata
Modding classic games can be a fun experience, but only if you know what you're doing! Tinkering with the game files is a challenging process, especially when you're a mad-scientist with tech so advanced that you could literally turn a game into anything. Jam would learn this the hard way after he installed the mod "Return To Ragol" for his GameCube copy of Phantasy Star Online!
He easily installed the mod in 5 minutes. However, the curious monkey couldn't stop at simply installing a rom-hack! He needed more, so he enabled ALL the cheats and created his own mods. His game became so warped that he was pulled inside it as a result! Once inside the game world, he toppled to the ground, landing on his face yet receiving no damage. Once up and about, he looked around at the bizarre virtual forest. He marveled at the dated early 2000s graphics that comprised this world, "Now this is my kind of place! I should find a way out of here though..."
As Jam wandered about, he found that he had an inventory just like the average player of this game! Sadly, there were no super rare and powerful items like the "Red Saber" or "Agito". Instead, all he had on him was a basic green saber with 0% in all affinities. He sighed as he equipped the saber, "Better than nothing I suppose!"
He began his trudge through the forest, looking for an escape route. As he did, he came across various monsters and was able to fight them off! Jam was a pro at this game, he knew all the enemy weaknesses and strengths from when he played the game as a monkey cub. This rampage against virtual beasts inside his favorite game eventually brought him to his most hated enemy: The Rag Rappy!
Rag Rappies were infamous for being obnoxious penguin-like monsters who would gang up and attack the player, just like any other enemy in the game would. What set them apart was that the birds were essentially immortal, merely playing dead once they were struck down. The only way to get items from them was to strike them after they got up and started running away! Jam lost out on so many item drops due to these awful birds as a kid, it was time to get his revenge!
Jam approached the bird and bashed him with his saber, "Take that, you stupid bird! That's for all my missed item drops!"
"SQUAWK?!" Chirped the bird as his feathery rump was whacked by the monkey's saber. The bird tried pecking Jam, but he effortlessly dodged the bird's attack.
The monkey snickered, "Man, it's even more fun to play this game while inside it! This stupid ass bird can't handle my skills!"
The bird eventually played dead after Jam struck him enough times, only for the game to start glitching. The monkey smirked, "Ah good, I must be going home!"
However, he quickly realized that the glitch was affecting both him AND the Rappy! Their vision became distorted as they were covered in bits of floating data, causing numerous glitches within the system. When Jam's vision came to, he found he was lying on the ground. He tried to speak but all that came out was: "Squawk! SQUAWK?!" All Jam could make was bird noises, prompting him to look down and find out that his voice wasn't the only avian thing about him now! His entire body was now that of a penguin-like monster! He had yellow feathers covering most of his body, while the feathers along his stomach were colored white. He had orange talon-like feet with pointy claws at the end of each toe. He also had fluffy yellow wings with three finger-like appendages on each one.
Jam also had a purplish beak with two long antennae attached to it, both with pink tufts of fur at the end of each one. Jam stood up and grabbed his strange new beak, letting out annoyed squawking sounds! Not only was he stuck in his favorite game, but also in the body of one of his most hated enemies! Just then, Jam heard maniacal laughter from behind. He turned around to see his body rising from the ground, but now with pitch-black and soulless eyes!
The new monkey raised his hands in front of his face, "Actual hands?! And I can talk?! This body truly is a score!"
He then began to scratch his new shaggy brown fur uncontrollably, "Urgh, maybe not! Wait, do I have fleas? Ever heard of a bath?!"
The bird squawked at the monkey angrily, only for him to stop scratching himself and pick up the saber from earlier. He approached Jam with it, killing intent in his beady black eyes, "Oh?! You wanna fight, huh? You'll be useless in that bird body, especially since you know what Rappies do after they get up right!"
As if on queue, Jam's body began to uncontrollably run the opposite direction, even though he wanted to stay and fight to get his body back! The former bird gave chase and started smacking Jam with his saber as he ran, causing him to drop tons of items and boxes of "Meseta"(the in-game currency). Jam was surprised he was dropping so many items, due to how a Rappy can only be struck once while running away in-game! In fact, he found he couldn't fully run away, but instead was ping-ponging around the area in a constant loop.
It was clear the game’s bugs had affected how his body works, leaving him stuck as a running penguin bouncing off the walls. All the while, Rappy continually struck Jam and knocked even more items out of him, "Ha, looks like you're the 'Item Pinata' now!"
Jam panicked, he was helpless in this state! All he could do was run back and forth around a small part of the area, unable to move of his own free will and a slave to the game's bugged programming! He knew his employees at his lab would find him and get him out of there/back into the right body, but who knows how long that'll take?! All Jam knew that for now, he was just a dumb bird being batted around for extra money!
