This was kindly received elsewhere, so I thought I may as well air it on FA. It was a piece that showed me I'm not meant for month-long art challenges.
I drew this last year trying to get into the Toontober challenge; the prompt was the style of Don Bluth, but I just can't turn out quick sketches every day - when I like where a sketch goes I start spending more time with it, and eventually it becomes a full-fledged piece.
But I would have loved to see Roald Dahl's 'The Witches' as a Bluth film - Dahl's dark humor would have fit pretty nicely with the dark fairy-tale style of Bluth's early work. And the hero-turned-mouse with a heart of a lion in his mouse form feels like a very Bluth-type of hero. Can you picture the Grand High Witch's unmasking, the mouse transformation and the search through her hotel room as imagined by Bluth? It was pretty clear in my mind.
This is also possibly the single scariest thing I've ever drawn. I admit, when I drew the Grand High Witch's true face I felt a little unnerved myself.
