Fergus here. I've been told I can be pretty pedantic sometimes. I try not to be. But I see Achaius' friends with detachable parts calling themselves "modular" all of the time, when they mostly just seem to take themselves apart. I asked Achaius what he thought, but I don't think he was listening very well.
I'm glad the modular furs have a common term though. Maybe you guys should rearrange and swap parts more often though.

Modular doesn't necessarily mean the part's slot/socket has to be populated. It just refers to the capability of having removable parts with potential compatible replacements placed into those slots. Disassembly refers to the action, not the feature. :3
Also, "jazz hands" is the best reaction to that spiel. XD

Just kidding. x3 The term modular works just fine, even though Fergus has a point. Amittedly, a lot of modular is detaching without switching parts. However, the term modular still implies that idea of something that can be separated into different parts and put back together again because of the organized structure of the detachment areas.
Yeah, that's tricky coming up with an alternate name for modular. If I had to do it, I've thought of a couple ideas. One is "isoparts" which I used the prefix "iso" from "isolated," meaning alone. The other idea, I couldn't figure out. If only there were a way to combine the ideas of "safe" with "decapitation/dismemberment" in a single word. Safesplit? Safeslice? I know the vore community has the term "endo" to mean safe vore, so that's where I got the idea.
But anyways, I'm on the side that "modular" is a good enough term. I the end, I'm happy there's a word that we've agreed on for the most part to describe the community and the subject itself of anthro animals with detachable body parts.
