Something beats inside this ship, i heard,
when resting lay its engines.
Something beats inside this ship, i heard,
its heartbeat never-ending.
Something beats inside this ship, i heard,
as our putrid work commences.
It listens to our every word, follows every move it senses.
In iron chambers dormant lies a vast expanse of thought,
that when all lay quiet at dead of night, to every man may talk.
We try to sleep, tween waves and steel, as the light of day draws near.
Something beats inside this ship, i heard, and it wants to keep us here.
"Whaler's Prayer" - Anonymous, 1960.
Poem i made as part of a short-story i might write some time, decided to make the appropriate imagery cause it fits the season!
