"It looked like an easy run... until the shadows whispered back."
Outside, the night is still.
Too still.
As the heavy door of the van slides open, a faint draft brushes against their legs — cold, dry, unnatural. The kind of breeze that never comes from the wind, but from places long forgotten. 💙 The kind that carries whispers you can almost hear, if you stop breathing just long enough.
They’ve hunted ghosts before. Houses, schools, even prisons. Nothing Camelol and Naetis haven’t logged, catalogued, survived. But Sunny Meadows Mental Institute is different. Everyone knows that.
Its silhouette pierces the twilight like a dying cathedral — all cracked glass and hollow stone. Its windows don’t reflect light. Its corridors don’t echo sound. And its walls... seem to remember pain.
💙 “This house looks scary! For score!”
A joke. Nervous, naive. The kind of laugh you offer when you want to believe you’re still in control. But they aren’t. Not really.
Camelol reads the mission board. Straightforward. Practical.
• Detect a paranormal sound.
• Drop sanity below 25%.
• Witness a ghost event.
It looks simple. Clean. Just enough for a payday.
Naetis, smiling, steps away, bare chest glowing with tribal markings and bravado. His eyes flash, his braid swings, his voice is confident. “I’ll go start putting the cameras.”
Camelol hesitates.
“Alright, just make sure your walkie-talkie works, hun.”
The connection is real. Strong. Grounding.
But the space between them is already growing.
Naetis is pulled forward — not by duty, but by something deeper. Something inside the house that has already reached out and touched him.
He doesn’t feel it yet.
But it feels him.
