Welp, I did it. All 31 days without missing a day. 30-60 minutes per day every day for a month
Some were brutal. There was mroe than one day this month where I worked a ton of overtime, barely did my sketch past my bedtime, then shut down my computer and went to bed
It's hard to say I've seen any substantial growth, but it was an interesting challenge. Got to draw some things I've never done before -- landscapes, scenery, props. Even if it's still amateur, it does at least help dabble into things I need to get better at
So the prompt today is "landmark"
Within the mirrorworld, one of the main landmarks of the world (though hidden to outsiders) is a massive "world tree" that is one of the main sources of mana in the world with a village with traditional Japanese style that is inhabited solely by tanuki (and some Orycals living in the tunnels/caves under its roots)
Though I didn't get a creature in this piece, I got the tree. I'm not normally that good at drawing trees, and though there's a lot I'd wanna change about it, but overall, it's one of the most impressive trees I've ever actually drawn
Now that the challenge is over, I'm going to take a long weekend off, and start thinking about which sketches will be chosen to be "finished". I'd like to take the top 5 with the most favorites, then I'll probably pick a couple of my personal favorites if they haven't been done already. Probably gonne keep me busy until the end of the year
I wanna make them full renders but entirely in black and white

Actually taking today off too
Turns out spending a weekend doing nothing just makes the chores pile up for Monday lmao
Gonna be grinding some non-art stuff I’ve been procrastinating for a while. Tomorrow I’ll start “rendering”
Gonna pick a handful of my personal favorites and everything that got 4 or more favorites by tomorrow. Will be taking my time and probably spend several days on each
1 refune the sketch. Fix errors I see now that I’ve had time away, clean the lines, etc. not polished lineart since I wanna try likeness, but make it thin so it’s easier to paint under
2. Add base values. Similar to flats but entirely grayscale to set the relative darkness of the flat colors. Such as making sure Rora’s blacks and whites have a different base value
3. Paint light and shadow onto the base & remove the lines
Very similar to the rendering process I’m currently using, but I wanna try with fewer layers

Fuuuuck. Spent 30 minutes troubleshooting driver issues on my tablet today. Been almost a week and this was the first day where I actually had a little bit of time to draw (thanks overtime)
I ended up spending 10 minutes today to get a very loose "single line sketch" on the first piece. It feels super sloppy, but that's okay since I'm going for lineless. I just wanted to have one line to make the render easier. Not gonna post since it feels like a visual downgrade from the current sketch. Once I have a proper chance to sit down and work on the render (hopefully tomorrow) I'll have something worth posting
Funnily enough, my landscape study got the most favorites of everything so far. Since this is gonna be a bit of a learning experience trying to render in lineless grayscale, I'll use that study as the first practice for this. Already feeling myself a little rusty
