Another silly Red Sonja picture that was supposed to part of yesterday's hilarity.
i re-inked her nose and lips cuz the original was meh.
crow quill pen and ink
approx 6 in high
Red Sonja is owned by Robert E. Howard's estate/or company, this version by Marvel, etc etc etc

i had "discovered" Mucha in 1968 when my family moved to West Hollywood - There were Mucha posters in the Head Shops on Hollywood Blvd . Mucha lead to Klimt - a few years later and the library at college lead from Klimt to Egon Schiele ... so for awhile i was drawing emaciated/elongated figures ... not all the time of course, and sometimes just for silliness.
In '79 i hadn't seen Yamato/Harlock - - - a few years later i was in the Animation biz and frequented L.A.'s 'Little Tokyo' shop 'Pony Toy' where i bought lots of Japanese VHS tapes - Studio Ghibli, Akira, Urusai Yatsura, and so on. i grew up with the first wave of anime - Tezuka's Astro Boy, Wonder Three, and Kimba - Gigantor, Eight Man, etc Speed Racer in my early teens - i don't see the anime influence in this picture but that might be because i'm unaware of it the same way a fish doesn't think about water.
It is less that it might be influenced by it ... most likely it is just that is looks similar...
not really the same, but the overarching style.
which is not a bad thing at all if you ask me.
Being born in '81 and Anime not being a thing here in germany until the early 90s... I grew up with looney toons and old disney cartoons...
My "love" for the asian animation came much much later and today, the market is so oversaturated, that I do not even try to find my way through it... sad times...
