Second and most likely final time I do one of these FA maps, this time between countries' capital cities. Here are some notes on what criteria I used:
- Capitals that are more than one word long were searched with a space, underscore, and as one word. For example, Buenos Aires was searched as '("buenos aires") | buenos_aires | buenosaires'
- Countries with multiple capitals or multiple names for the same city will have each one counted. If a submission mentioned multiple of them in the same submission, it only counted as one mention
- Capitals that were recently moved from will not count unless it is still a 'de facto' capital like Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, but not Yangon, Myanmar
- No shortened names (unless it's an official name/alias). Andorra la Vella was searched as '("andorra la vella") | andorra_la_vella | andorralavella)', not as just 'Andorra'. Luxembourg City was searched as 'Luxembourg' however
- For fun, I decided to uniquely colour a few non-countries too like Greenland or French Guiana.
As you may have noticed from a quick glance, this map is even more unstable than last time for several reasons:
- Many countries' capitals are also names of people or other cities, such as Victoria, Seychelles; Sofia, Bulgaria; or San José, Costa Rica
- I can't search keywords that are less than 3 letters. This means that most notably I couldn't search 'DC' for Washington, D.C., making it underperform on this map way more than it should have
- Searching accent marks or apostrophes on FA's search bar also doesn't work. For example, if you search 'Pokémon', it will interpret it as two different tags: 'pok mon'. Every capital with accents I decided to try to search with and without. So for Malé, Maldives, I had to search 'male | malé', and for 'São Tomé', both of those rules mean that typing it with the accents will only search 'tom'. So yeah, the top two 'most' 'mentioned' capitals ended up being two random island countries that got a massive unfair advantage because of FurAffinity's buggy search function
The unstableness and that this kind of content is a big detour from what I usually upload is why I shelved this one for a while and that the results were from several weeks ago. I changed my mind though since I figured it might be interesting or funny to some and I didn't want the map to go to waste
Here are my full results. These include some territories not shown in the map such as Scotland, Bougainville, or Abkhazia
