Original Species: Crimson-Crested Death-Beak (remake)
The Crimson-Crested Death-Beak is Vogelheim's largest land predator. With a mass of 4 tons, it can easily take down prey species like the Greater Gworp and the Mammoth Bird. Due to its massive build, it's not a very good runner; however, being a large prey specialist, tremendous running speed is unnecessary.
These birds typically use their enormous beaks to attack their prey. The initial strike is intended to stagger the target, followed by a kick to cause the prey to fall over. Once its prey is on the ground, the Death-Beak holds it down with the help of one of the hooked talons on its feet and delivers a decisive peck to the head or neck to finish the hunt.
On rare occasions, these predators venture to the shorelines of Vogelheim to prey on young seals. Once they have their meaty prize, they will mostly disregard all other creatures in the area, unless they threaten to steal their meal.
Fortunately for researchers, these birds are not agile runners, and their low running speed makes them quite easy to outmaneuver. Furthermore, if the Death-Beak has already made a kill, it will disregard people passing by. With that, it can be avoided without issue.
