You should try painting like this. For every stroke I would place the brush on the canvas, then relax all muscles in the body to flop around on the desk like a ragdoll. That is how these brush strokes were decided. Only the snake's eye was painted while I was actually looking at it. That gives you just enough information to be able to make out a character.
