Here is the original story from last Halloween, in case I confused anyone. Forgive me.
Halloween had finally arrived. Remy had put on his costume and headed out to meet with his friends. After having his supper and saying good-bye to his parents, of course.
They met him at his driveway and together they headed on their way.
After going from door to door on their street, they decided on not heading down to the cul-de-sac.
" Every time we go down there," Remy said, "Something terrifying happens. It's truly haunted down there!"
"Well," said Bradley, "I wouldn't say it's haunted, but I agree. After those ghosts ambushed us last year, I say we stay away this time."
Scott sighed. "I hate to admit it, but you're right. I saw them with my own eyes."
"Alright," Richard shrugged. "So where do we go now?"
"I know," said Kyle. "I heard they got some good houses up on Maple Drive."
"That's three blocks up the street," said Scott.
"Don't worry, we'll just take a shortcut through the park."
Remy and the others were unsure about the idea. But they voted yes on it.
It would only take them five minutes through the park.
The five friends passed the basketball court and onto a long path that led up to Maple Drive.
It was dark and eerie going through the park at night. It was illuminated only by the moon. But they all stayed together.
Just up ahead, they spotted two more trick-or-treaters coming their way.
Remy recognized them almost immediately.
"Kit? Marty?"
It was indeed them. The two boys he and Scott met at the bookstore earlier that summer.
Marty was dressed as the Fourth Doctor (Who), and Kit Jr. as Al Calavicci from Quantum Leap.
They were just as surprised to see them.
"Great costumes," exclaimed Marty.
"Awesome Rocket costume," Kit Jr. told Scott.
"Thanks," Scott smiled. "What are you guys doing back here?"
"Oh," said Marty, "We always come back here around Halloween. It's kinda our tradition. Better candy and such."
"That's nice," said Remy. "We're just taking a different path."
"From what?" asked Kit Jr.
"Last year we were haunted by-"
"Hey," said Kyle, "What's that?" He pointed up at the sky.
There was a large ball of light silently hovering above them. Everyone stared up at the light as it drew closer and closer down.
It was so bright that they had to shield their eyes. A large beam engulfed Marty and Kit Jr. They stood completely still as if in a trance. There was a large whoosh that nearly swept everyone off their feet.
As quickly as the orb appeared, it zoomed away into the night sky.
When everyone came to their senses, they suddenly realized what had happened.
Scott couldn't contain his excitement. "A UFO," he cried. "It was a UFO!"
"Is everyone okay?" asked Richard.
"I'm fine," said Bradley.
"Ditto," said Kyle.
Scott was well aware of the side effects of alien abductions. In a panic, he looked at his watch. No lost time. He touched his nose. No blood. No torn clothing, no marks on his body. Everything seemed normal.
Remy looked at Mart and Kit Jr. "Guys," he said, "What happened to your pants?"
They looked down in shock. Their trousers were missing.
Remy and the others burst out laughing.
"They abducted their pants!" Bradley laughed hysterically.
But it wasn't long before reality settled back in.
Remy turned to Richard. "You know, maybe we should go back to the cul-de-sac after all."
"I'm with Remy," said Richard.
"You know what?" said Scott, "Me too."
Everyone agreed, including Marty and Kit Jr., still covering their exposed boxers.
They ran back down the path, not stopping until they reached their own street.
Remy and his friends (as well as Marty and Kit Jr.) learned that night that you don't always look for scares on Halloween night, sometimes the scares will come to them. So, what is it that makes a scary story work? There doesn't seem to be just one answer.
