Ryu accidentally bumped into one of the flower arrangements a fairy was working on in his mentor's garden. She WAS going to turn Ryu into a Froggle, BUT she thought he looked to charming to turn into a creature.... so she gave him a bonk on the head instead. A flower sprouted from it, a flag that says: "I upset the fairies." He'll be like that until it wilts. Or if he plucks it, but plucking it stings.
