I see how often those appear from you.
I see glimpses of how often you actually think about it.
Can't help but ask myself if you regret what you did, deep down?
Are you far too ashamed to dare ask for forgiveness of your choice?
Or, is it that you already know you'll never be forgiven if you did ask?
Could it be your pride barring you from taking back what you said, way back when?
At first, I was scared to even look that way. What if all at once you knew that I knew?
Perched on razor wire, gazing over the edge. There's a chasm beneath my feet. Don't fall.
Only, I know when I land it will be on solid ground. There's somewhere for me to stand now.
Do you have one? I can't tell if your side is empty or full. I can see it's cracked and crumbling.
How's that working for you? All I know, the side you've landed is clear on the other end.
Surely as clear as the smog whisping around the remains of buildings you've set fire to.
I believed you. I believed in you. For some reason or another, I thought I'd mattered.
It'll never be me. No matter what I've done, no matter what I've said. It won't be me.
Yet, to see it. To see evidence that you've lied to me. That's another thing entirely.
Does where we land connect at any point? Will you try to find me at the bottom?
How sad, that knowing the answer doesn't make me brave enough to jump off.
