Your arguing over slaves is pretty disingenuous, given that many of the big corporations who funded Trump treat their workers, most of whom are natural born citizens, almost as badly as slaves. As for the other stuff, if there's no one size fits all fixes, why did you vote for a guy who claimed he had such? In terms of 'nearly a century of intrusive bureaucracy' would that include things like the 'Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938', the 'Civil Rights Act of 1964' and the 'Voting Rights Act of 1965'? Finally, fixing the issue with illegal immigrants is good, but pointless if it crashes the economy.

Yeah I've noticed. It's funny that I don't mind talking to people who have something to actually say, but latching on to "weird" is such an easy catch for "ignore me because my only braincell is focused on namecalling". I went from an average $28.67 for those items to $78.93 as of September for the exact same items. My rent has almost doubled, my car insurance doubled, Energy bills more than doubled. I wasn't alone. In fact, a country that I can say is truly energy independent is Iran. They use their own supply and import ZERO oil. They have zero transport costs and their gas is not infested with taxes like it is here. This is why they have the lowest gas prices on earth. ($0.11 a gallon)

I don't see what people see in him, and I will admit proudly that I voted Harris as I believe that was the right decision to make based on the knowledge I was able to gather. However in trying to understand why the election went the way it did I can no longer say I don't understand why people voted for Trump. The world is a rough place that for most people is slowly but steadily sliding back to an even harder to survive place, and many have lost faith in the existing institutions. If people don't feel heard, don't feel cared for, or don't feel wanted, then they will go elsewhere. The MAGA movement has made me feel those things, and so I go elsewhere.

I can't say I'm a fan of the man, but if it's the will of the American people for him to be put in charge of the US for the next four years, then so be it. As a Canadian citizen, my only concern with him is anything to do with international relations anyway, be it trade or military.

To a degree. I fully understand that many of his decisions during the last time he was in office were as much due to the failings of previous administrations as they were about current events in the here-and-now (especially when it came to Afghanistan), but the issue I have with anyone saying "we're not going to war" is that even POTUS has to acknowledge that the enemy has a vote regardless of whether you decide to engage them or not. Couple this with the fact that there are no friends in international politics (just common interests), and that the US is for all intents and purposes the sole guarantor of global trade at the moment, we end up in a scenario where, unless Trump maintains an entourage of advisors who are able and willing to rein him in on decisions regarding foreign affairs, his proclivity to be unreliable (for good or ill) presents a diplomatic challenge for every other nation who relies on that trade network, not to mention that unpredictable nuclear-capable military powers tend to make even staunch allies nervous (especially those living next door).
You forget, the extreme left firmly believes that Project 2025 is 100% Trump's plan and will Enact it now. Hell, I was shocked hearing commercials on the radio a week before the election with some guy who sounded like white trailer trash saying "Under Project 2025 that Trump will follow, you can no longer watch or possess pornography of any kind, Vote for your freedom, Vote against Trump." without actually naming Harris. How convenient to hide that fact. Naturally a PAC committee , New Democrat Coalition.

It's obvious this presidential election came down to the country's perceptions on the economy. What concerns me is that I doubt the president-elect's agenda will improve the economy. Protectionism (i.e., tariffs) have historically exacerbated inflation and dampened international trade. Mass deportations could disrupt the labor market, as we spend money to remove people who contribute to our economy and keep our workforce young (thus keeping our national retirement entitlement system solvent). Lowering taxes might help, but "trickle-down economics" have arguably done more to widen economic inequality than provide lasting support to the working class. Deregulation might be the most promising proposal, as long as the resulting actions of the private sector do not disproportionately disadvantage the under-served (which is in theory why regulations were adopted in the first place).
Economic promises aside, I disagree with some of the president-elect's positions on foreign affairs. Appeasement to blatant Russian aggression sets a bad precedent to our civil-rights-backing allies and China, which I claim despite my general opposition to the military-industrial complex. On that note, I find it misguided to offer Israel a blank check to wage a "forever war" on terrorism (in apparent defiance of international law, I might add), with no genuine plans for the long-touted two-state solution with Palestine.
Finally, on social issues, I am weary of the future administration's impact on the increasingly tenuous separation between church and state. The cultural flashpoint that is abortion may be telling; receptiveness to nationwide abortion restrictions would indicate that the "states should decide" logic of the Dobbs ruling was purely a means to an end. Another space I'm watching is education, specifically whether the "parental rights" movement ends up oppressing the rights of parents on the other end of the political spectrum. I will not buy-in to the alarmism around the vulnerability of our First Amendment rights, but I will be monitoring whether the president-elect chooses to guide the pendulum to equilibrium or instead ride that momentum beyond that point for political gain (i.e., "owning the libs").
To be clear, this is not a defense of the Democratic platform. They do not have their priorities straight and fall into many of the same policy pitfalls. I sincerely hope that America is "made great (again)." After all, I'm going to be back on the job market in a couple years!

But to just say, I dont really believe anything is political in nature, in a way yes it is but we cannot nust point the finger at the other aide because they are "leftist" or "lunatic liberals" we all have tonregard the fact that the issues Is not what one amall group tries to push, represent, or rather fear monger. The understanding lf others is the way to mske things right just like how its always been right? And thats called empathy. Without it American wouldn't exist, without the right to disagree, challenge and shate our opinions this country would never have been what it is now, and no one has the right to determine that, not a political group, party, rich guy or even president does so, and if they do? They are not American. To be an American is to agree and disagree, not to silence those and writhe them with fear because they're not you.

But to just say, I dont really believe anything is political in nature, in a way yes it is but we cannot nust point the finger at the other aide because they are "leftist" or "lunatic liberals" we all have tonregard the fact that the issues Is not what one amall group tries to push, represent, or rather fear monger. There lunatics in all sides of the political spectrum, wather rhey are liber, conservative, communist, fascist, Republican and Democrat. There are extremist everywhere regardless.
So rather than just always point the finger onto which group is on the right or on the wrong, let it be we find the real causes of all the things we need to resolve rather than to debate over whos right and whos wrong, because in the end of the day (and pls dont hate me for saying this) politics in itself is very stupid because for what we know it just seperatesus more over ideologies, beliefs and general things we can work together to resolve.
Earth in regards to the universe itself is but a grain of sand, weather you do believe in the universe or not, i think we can understand that there are greater things at stake than political beliefs, affiliations, identities, Earth itself is out home, we are not one but many generations of people of all kinds, by ethnicity, tribes and empires that run through our veins.
We as humans are not so different, wether you believe in god or evolution, we exist in this world for a reason, wether it be natural or theistic. In a way we are all different individuals, no ones truly thr same or ever will be even in a perfect world. Perfection will always be imperfect, it will never really be practical. Wether you think Biden eas right wrong@ good bad, or Trump a fascist, or Good guy or dictator, It really doesn't matter. i can understand your passion for such people, but why does one person have to matter more than your family, kids, friends and neighbors because their political beliefs or rhetoric? And place an obligation to defie others because they think differently than us, because they struggle differently than us?
Why Is demonizing people for political beliefs the norm, and i speak against both sides of the political spectrum or where evere the hell it lies. We gotta quit it and just band together and stop pointing fingers, because in the end of the day ones always right, we just know we think is right.

It has been fascinating to see this go on, especially as a politics and government major who graduated when the 45th was being sworn in and could typecast him. (Spoiler alert. Not a newt-see. He's an 80's Democrat ideologically, at least then.)

GradeA really did get it right in his non-roast of Trump that genuinely wishing the worst for Trump now after the man's coming in from two assassination attempts (at least) is just stupidly unproductive. Loads of yelling by people here, and for what really? Beuwen is going to keep making content, Trump is still going to be the 47th, the way things are going as of 3/8/25, absolutely no one's learned from the last time he was Mr. President and are just going to repeat the same nonsense, and no one's being moved by the outrage. Unless you call Trump's victory in the most landslide of manners it probably could have been the people moving away from the left.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just some Anon on a furry site from the backwaters of the US which still hasn't entirely gotten over how just how badly Obama's tenure left the Rust Belt. I'm not a raccoon, but even I could tell you the trash cans on the left ain't got anything in them for us no more and don't seem to plan on getting something. Guess if you wanted the garbage people you should have left us some crumbs instead of shame.
