A study piece about Gadget from years ago that I keep forgetting about, and from the same night as the other piece...
Gadget leaned back against the jutting roof of the attic window. They'd had another fight and she had no idea why. It just seemed that whenever Chaos opened his mouth, she wanted to shove a fist in and yet... part of her didn't want to at all. Deep down, she wondered if the problem wasn't so much him as it was her.
She'd always been the geeky one of her rookery, the female more likely to have grease under her nails than perfume behind her ears. The males in her clan treated her like one of the guys while they chased after her rookery sisters. An accident dropped Chaos in their laps and finally there was a male just as geeky as she was -- if she could only wrap her head around one fact.
He kept insisting that he wasn't a gargoyle.
It was a shame because as a gargoyle, Chaos was cute, in a beta male sort of way. This suited Gadget because she had always been headstrong and stubborn. That was part of the problem too. Eagle had taken her aside and pointed out with characteristic bluntness that in order to be loved, one has to risk losing part of themselves. A true mating was a love between equals.
Maybe, Gadget thought as she bit her lip, it was that loss of control that scared her. She had been a loner for so long, happy in her own little world of techogeekery that she was afraid of opening her heart and letting him in. Maybe, she wasn't really fighting him but actually fighting herself.
There had to be a way to meet halfway.
There had to be.

mommyspike Bits, and pieces of this make appearances, or have had small influences that have helped flesh out the character in ways I hadn't quite considered.
