“This is the town of Carmel. The demonic energy is very low, but there is still some here.”
Bianca Revel, 25, held up her datapad, one that she created herself, studying the energies of the town. She adjusted her glasses, watching how the reading showed a 1.8 of demonic influence/energy in Carmel, though this score was out of a 100.
“So it’s less than Glador? That’s a relief.”
Thomas Pilsner, a horse of 27 years, tucked his hands into sweatshirt pockets as he thought back to the last town they had been to. It had been a small demonic presence in the form of an old casino owner, who had been leading citizens to the tables, to take their money and eventually their souls. That all ended when Tom and Biance showed up. They had hoped to take a small vacation, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t check the town just in case.
“Yeah, I don’t want to think about how much gambling was done in front of us. It’s a good thing our resistance to demonic energy is so low. We’d have been in trouble otherwise”, Bianca said as she put her device back in her backpack.
“Eh, I don’t like gambling, and I know you don’t either. There was no way that thing was going to get us, no matter how many free rolls he offered us”, Tom replied as he pulled out a pack of gum and took a piece. His offer to Bianca was politely declined.
“Fair. Still, we need to be on guard no matter where we go, you have to know that Lucifer knows who we are these days. Glador was town ten since we started this.
Tom nodded. The duo had been working together since Bianca graduated from community college with a degree in Cyber Securities three years ago. At that time, Tom, was trying to start a small business selling tires. He had been somewhat of a local football legend, and people always wanted to take pictures with him.
One day, a mare named Cybil walked into his shop, asking for new tires on her Mercedes. As he started to oblige her, she began to whisper in his ear how impressive he was, his athletic prowess, and how knowledgeable about cars he was. It sent a little thrill down the male horses’ spine, though he quickly tried to ignore it.
As this was happening, just by chance, Bianca was talking to the assistant manager of the store, trying to help them set up a VPN, when she felt something in the air. She didn’t know what it was, or why she felt it, but she just did. She walked into the garage and saw an energy around Cybil, one that was bright orange. Worse, the energy seemed to have a face, one that had teeth and seemed to be sneering at Tom.
Without even thinking, she grabbed a wrench and lunged at the taller horse, her attempt easily blocked by the mare. Cybil just laughed and her face contorted to reveal a demonic face. She made an attempt to go after Bianca, but before she could strike the dimuntive fox, Tom smacked her with the wrench, sending her to the ground. He held it up to hit her once more, but she disappeared, yelling that she would get them back one day. After that, the two began a friendship and researched demonology.
Now, the two had sharpened their skills quite a bit; Bianca was the tech person who also could sense a demonic presence if it was strong enough, and Tom had developed spell casting that could seal or defeat a demon permanently. They’d been called in a few times, but mostly they went searching from town to town, trying to take care of the things that were corrupting other furs.
Today, they were overlooking Carmel, a town of less than one thousand people, and one they figured they would only be passing through. After all, anything under a 10 on the demonic scale meant that it was just people giving in to their vices on their own, not under possession or coercion. Tom had told Bianca that he wanted to take a few days and relax, and not think of demons. This appeared to be their chance.
