Under the cover of darkness and pouring rain, Kate made her way around the pack’s border, which brought her to the southern tip of the valley. It wasn’t far from where just a few months prior, Kate had returned with Humphrey at just the right tune to stop a full scale invasion of her territory. One that was only really postponed by a day. In truth, no matter what Kate did, the easterners would have invaded and forced their ways upon her family. Now, she was about to do what she felt she should have done back in spring. Jump on the train and leave for Idaho.
As Kate approached the tracks, she took a quick glance around, but didn’t see or smell anything off. Good, she thought. She was alone, or at least she thought she was. Now that she was alone and standing by in front of the train tracks, her mind began to wander again. This was it, she knew. This would be the last time she would be standing on her homeland with her own paws for at best, a very long time. She could feel herself getting emotional again, but she inhaled it down. She could grieve and feel sorry for herself on the train.
All she had to do now was wait for the train to come, and jump into an open car. Her main concern was the added weight of her pregnancy. Jumping such a distance upwards with such a bloated and heavy belly was going to be a challenge, but Kate was confident that she could pull it off with enough time to prepare herself. There weren’t a lot of options for her, and walking all the way was going to not only make it easier for Tony and his goons to find her, but also heighten the risk of the pups arriving while on the way. That, needless to say, would be big trouble for her. Labor setting in at the wrong time could potentially kill her if she was traveling. As she felt her worry rising, she caught herder and let out a huff, handling her expression towards the train tracks.
“You got this…you’ve got this…we’ll be okay…you’ve got-AGH!”
Her soft mutters to try and calm herself down were completely halted by an intense jab to her backside. Kate looked back, and saw the exact last thing she was expecting, or wanting to see right now. A dart with a red tail piece was sitting out of her behind. As the dress filled her being, so did the inescapable fatigue, her eyesight beginning to distort and dim. The drugs flowing into her body seemed to make the pups wiggle like crazy. Kate pushed through this growing tiredness the best she could, turning right and wobbling along the track a few steps before falling into her chest and chin.
“No…stay awake…please…no…” She wheezed before the pregnant alpha rolled onto her side like a rock. Unable to move, all Kate could do was fight to keep her eyes open. But her body wasn’t even prepared to overcome the tranquilizer’s drug.
All she could see before her eyes shut was a human male stepping into view. His hair was black and he had a noticeable mustache and dark hat. The clothes he wore were not that of the rangers she’d seen driving around the valley at times. This was no park ranger, which terrified her even more. He leaned towards Kate and prodded her bloated belly with his boot. Before she lost all consciousness, she heard him speak in a thick accent.
“Good hit, Arthur! Bill, John, get over here and carry her into the crate. She’ll do.” His face was lightened up by an excited countenance.
Another thick accented voice was heard nearby. “You sure a pregnant wolf is gonna make us more money at the place? The local kids are gonna laugh at how fat she is.”
The mustached man replied. “Have some damn faith, Arthur! We’ll have more wolves to raise once they’re born. Trust me my friend, we’re gonna make a fortune off of this one….”
