Titan Sirians are one of 3 species native to the Sirius B system. Their name coming from their massive height. If they have a name for themselves they’ve never uttered it in front of any other species.
Titan Sirians are a large, warm-blooded creature belonging to a family similar in some ways to Earth Gastropoda. They average between 8’-12’ in height (not counting their antennae), and stand on 6 thick, trunk-like legs that end in a hoof-like structure comprised of a dense calcium carbonate with a keratin outer layer. They have 4 additional tentacles which end in 3 long fingers and 2 thumbs for gripping and manipulating their environment. Their heads are at the top a long neck and possesses a sharp beak, three eyes, and 2 long, feathery antennae. Their Skin is rough and spongy, and covered in a thin layer of oily mucus to protect the body from desiccation when far from water.
The Titan Sirians’ eye structure allows them to see into the same color spectrum as humans, though because of their odd shape they cannot rotate their eyes and have to rotate their entire head to see. The antennae do take on a feathery appearance, but are actually covered in olfactory sensing cells allowing the Titan Sirians to smell their surroundings.
What is curious is their limited, or arguably lacking, bone structure, aside from their beaks and hoofs, the only other major bone structure is the skull and sternum, which aren’t actually bone, but a calcium carbonate compound similar to sea shells. The rest of the body is held up through a complex structure of cartilage and stacked muscle that allows the Titan Sirian to stand upright and be remarkably flexible.
The long structures behind the head and on either side of the anus are snorkels that, alongside the larynx in the throat, tie into the Titan Sirians’ remarkable respiratory system, which is not only capable of providing oxygen to a body of such immense size, but is also able to efficiently switch between air and water breathing near instantly. Thus providing the Titan Sirian the ability to survive underwater (to a depth of over 2 miles without health risks). Which is important as Titan Sirians aren’t capable of swimming. However the system is less efficient on land than in air, at elevations above 7,000 ft, breathing becomes difficult and labored, and above 9,000 ft Titan Sirians will need respiratory equipment to avoid suffocating.
Of one other biological need of the species, Titan Sirians have a low freshwater tolerance, they can enter freshwater fine enough, and can even sustain themselves on freshwater for a time, but drinking freshwater for too long will eventually result in Hyponatremia in Titan Sirians. As a result the largest concentration of Titan Sirian population is along the coasts and costal shelfs of their home world and colonies, while inland settlements need to be able to brine their water to be sustainable.
The dominant Titan Sirian culture is a deeply spiritual society with a focus on community and the concept of a pooled consciousness, in fact Titan Sirian clergy will make use of Blue Sirian neural implants to mentally link its members together into a sort-of synthetic pseudo-hive mind. As they near death, prominent religious leaders will have an artificial intelligence programmed to mimic their own thoughts and behavior so that upon death the AI will remain linked to the clerical network, its not entirely clear if they do this believing that somehow the cleric’s soul is preserved as an AI, or if this is an acknowledged imitation meant to allow the individual’s knowledge and wisdom to remain a resource long after their passing; it’s possible that both are true depending on which sect is being asked.
As Titan Sirian culture is one largely preoccupied with the spiritual, they can come off to outsiders as being at times contemplative and introspective, but at other times dismissive and airy. As they tend to not view worldly matters as being of serious importance. This can and has resulted in some species and societies harboring animosity towards the Titan Sirians, usually interpreting their disinterest as a show of disrespect. There has even been times when this has boiled over into armed conflict.
Something of minor note is that Titan Sirian astrological maps started including Earth around 1351 BC (Earth Date). A curious fact when cross referencing events occurring in Egypt around that time. Possibly a coincidence.
