For all those who were wondering what those 'secret costumes' were! We attended What The Fur this weekend and it was a BLAST! These costumes were very well received. Photo courtesy of the awesome
.
I'm the orange one (gryphon/phoenix hybrid), Nephis is the white one (a hippogryph). Neither of them have names yet, which I was rather embarrassed about when I was called up for a craftsmanship award and found out they printed the suit's name as "It's orange and feathery" for lack of anything better. My bad :X The white one wasn't entered in the contest because I'm the attention whore in this relationship :3
They're balaclava/foam based with sealed paperclay beaks (which are pretty strong since they are basically solidified glue over a frame and bulked out with pulp). They have followme resin eyes, moving jaws and are glasses-friendly (zero fogging problems). I did the sewing and most of the sculpting, Nephis did all the finicky electricals. You can't really tell because we're standing next to the hotel's windows, but each costume has LEDs (our crests light up, his eyes glow and my beak + tail have lights). We look really awesome in the dark!
I had so much fun making these and I'm going to get started on my next project ASAP (but I think I'll take a few days off to give my neglected apartment some vacuum love).
