BC Rail 4608 at Bedford Park, Illinois

BC Rail C40-8M #4608 leads a Canadian National C44-9W on CN train M340, a Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, to Chicago manifest freight. The train is on the Belt Railway of Chicago, approaching the massive Clearing Yard, in Bedford Park, Illinois. Since CN's takeover of BC Rail, these units have been showing up in some very foreign places.

Those things must be pretty common cause thats the second train someones caught (besides the one I caught) with a BC rail C40-8, I caught 4623 down here on the CN McComb sub.

They can show up anywhere on CN. There are somewhere close to 30 of them, so they aren't all that common.

They still show up there. There seem to be a pool of BC Rail power that still runs around up there, though some of it is getting repainted into CN colors, sublettered "BCOL".

Well sadly, I've only seen them once- when they were on their way to the scrapper in Tacoma, WA. There is only one left, at a museum in Prince George, BC. The Tumbler Ridge line they ran on has been de-electrified and now runs only sporadically, with diesels.
