The Myr are one of the few known and most common insectoid races on Eidon and aside from the red and brown Myr the most neutral ones. Some of the other insectoids are the Scaraxi from the desert regions, the Wesp who live in mountain biomes, the Mothrii and Pyris, and the Aeshni from the swamps and tropical regions. Black Myr make their home in the plains and forests where they create a labyrinth of tunnels underground to hide away their queen and raise her young in safety, though this means the black Myr tend to live closer to any settlements and they could become a problem if the hive grows too big and over forage the local area. Fortunately the black and brown Myr can at least be reasoned with and asked to move their hive elsewhere or reduce their numbers in order to avoid a culling or extermination when the queen continues to ignore the pleas of the surface dwellers. Not every queen will be willing to agree or simply refuse to move their hive believing their numbers will keep the hive safe, which usally it does, at least from a full out raid on their hive. Since a Myr hive can number in the hundreds it would take an army to even stand a chance of removing them, unless the queen can be slain and the hive falls apart without her. Thankfully there are natural ways to keep hive numbers in check which is why giant fern spiders are tolerated near settlements as they prey on the worker drones and thus limiting the food supply for a smaller hive.
A Myr hive is made up of one or two queens, a small number of soldiers, and a majority of worker drones, all of them female but infertile except for the queen. Worker drones build and expand the hive, forage and take care of the larva, while the soldier drones protect the hive and scout the area for threats and more sources of food and supplies. Workers move in a more quadruped way and are typically between three and four feet in height, soldiers are about the size of an average human and the queen is typically seven to eight feet in height. Though the queen hardly ever leaves the hive she is the only one who possesses wings capable of flight, though a lack of mobility means she is not as physically capable compared to even the workers, although still stronger than most humans or even beast folk. A queen also has less protective chitin on the lower body and joints to make egg laying easier, which she does at a rate of about fifty to one hundred eggs per week though not every larva makes it to adulthood for a number of reasons. during their larval stage the queen decides wether more workers or soldiers are needed in the hive and in order to trigger the change the queen will feed the larva an oily secretion from three sets of glands each with a different effect on the larva turning them into workers or soldiers, and if the hive has been hit with disaster wiping out all but the queen, the third set of glands can cause a larva, worker or soldier to turn into a fertile male to restart the hive if mating season is still a long ways off. Though this obvious inbreeding is a last resort to tide the hive over untill the next breeding season, after which if the queen has successfully mated the inbred offspring is purged from the hive. Often these purged Myr have a higher inteligence and autonomy inherited from the queen, and these hiveless will wander off on their own to live out their days or sometimes even end up recruited by adventuring parties. Though it is often hard for a hiveless Myr to survive for long among the humans and beast folk or avoid capture. They may also suffer from pheromone withdrawal after a lifetime in the hive and turn to alcohol or other substances in order to alleviate the stress. Pheromones play a big part in communication for the Myr though they can communicate in common language with some effort, that is to say that is the truth for the workers, the soldiers and the queen have a much higher learning ability and can speak fluently in other languages after being exposed to them for a while. This is why it is possible to request a Myr hive to move elsewhere when humans or beast folk send a representative to meet with the queen, ofcourse the tricky part is approaching the hive without being driven off by the guards. A curious thing is that the Myr can also communicate with their vastly smaller insect kin with the use of these pheromones, as such it is not uncommon for ants to move into the Myr hive and be loyal to the Myr queen, this may in turn also attract bats to move into the hive to feast on the abundance of small insects yet strangely enough the Myr do not seem to mind the bats and other insectivores to move into their hive, perhaps because these predators also eat young fern spiders which may harm the larva and eggs.
Male Myr exist but they only swarm once every few years and only live for a few months or untill after they have mated with a hive queen. They can live longer if they are infected with a parasite, which makes them more or less undead as the parasite takes over their mind, or if their life is extended with the use of magic which also often also makes them mindless puppets.
That said Myr are not exactly a popular choice for slaves or pets and the only reason they might get captured from time to time is so they can be experimented on since in most places the Myr as a race don't have much if any rights protecting them, which is also why exterminating one of their hives can easily be requested withut any objections. In recent years however some scholars have been debating wether or not the Myr and other insectoid races should be granted more rights and protection but thus far no progress has been made ever since they were even considered a race instead of monsters as most still find their appearance unsettling, but a few attempts at establishing trade have been made as a first step towards accepting the Myr with lilited success as the Myr don't really have much to trade which could be of value to the other races, aside from the queen's "milk" which could be a valuable ingredient for transformation potions but no Myr queen has ever given up this substance willingly so the only source of it is from the occasional extermination of a hive so any amount fetches high prices from alchemists eager to experiment with it.

Not that happy with this description to be honest so I may have to rework it sometime, but I hope it at least works as an introduction for now.
