Based on a true story! My human'sona really did turn on the 80s station in time for ``Never Gonna Give You Up'' to start.
Another rare comic sequence from me, as well as a rare picture that isn't all full-body figures standing in an unobstructed void.
Tried to add a little of Bill Watterson's ``dancing TV set'' thing to give the music rectangle some life. I don't have what Watterson has, but I have to start with something, right? So this is something. The big variations in lettering size exaggerate the music but in a way that I think serves the scene.

I don't have any specific memory of the song before it became a meme. I'd probably liked it but just in that way anyone liked ``Too Late For Goodbyes'' or ``Who's Johnny'', nice but not something to think about again.
But it has got a stress pattern that lends itself to fun word balloons, so I'm glad we settled on that as the 80s Meme Song.

It's from Sparks's 2008 album Exotic Creatures of the Deep, a fun little tune called ``Let The Monkey Drive''. Sparks are a pair of brothers who've been recording for a half-century-plus now and still coming up with new, good sounds with strange and often funny lyrics. Highly recommended.
