~A token of hope~
I got a bit too creative and made a sketch (it was supposed to be a simple sketch but I got carried away lol!) of two of my beloved characters, inspired by a song I'll leave below. They have a very special connection, which is well explained in the story. Unfortunately I can't find the right media to show it to you in a way I want, so for now I'll post the most important 'shots' with a short story explaining what's going on on the picture!
This sketch shows the conversation that happens very late in the story, almost on the very end, before the final EPIC fight. Drakon manages to steal all five demonic books and has a way to use their powerful, cursed magic. It's the last time he sees Eternal before the worst happens~
The song that inspired me to draw this scene (also, I adore the singer's voice!) https://youtu.be/Ca0x_f8sWHA?si=M6zpS2YR4l8aitJX
Eternal and Drakon of course belong to me!
At the end I wanted to thank all Patreons/supporters on Buy me a coffee for all donations I got. Thanks to you, I can spend some of my free time on personal art, that otherwise I wouldn't get paid for. And I love bringing these artworks to you and share some of the story that I've been working on for 11 years now! Anyway, enjoy the read! ;)
Eternal was lying on the bed with her eyes wide open. Another restless hour had passed, the silence broken by a soft sound of wind whistling through the cracks in the castle’s window. She turned her head to the left, observing the rising moon in the dark, cold sky. An event from the previous day brought so much distress to her that even in the middle of the night, she wasn’t able to fall asleep.
Her restless reflection was broken by a swift sound of wings cutting through the quiet sky. A familiar shape landed on the edge of the window, its dark eyes flickering with curiosity as it cocked its head. Eternal slipped out of bed silently and moved toward the bird. She recognized the raven immediately. It was Traamar, Drakon’s familiar, who was clearly looking for her. When she reached out her hand toward the bird, he jumped onto her arm and let out a quiet cry, shaking his foot. Attached to it, a small piece of paper was secured – a message for her?
He wanted to see her outside of the city. Now. But… why? Was it even safe to leave the castle walls and meet with him alone, at night? Was it a trap? Does HE want her dead? But why would he…?
Thousands of thoughts raced through Eternal’s mind, not knowing what to do. She looked behind her – her bow and quiver full of arrows right next to the bed, waiting to be used. At least, that’s what Will told her to do if she ever found herself in HIS presence. But could she…?
Covered by a thick cloak, she waited in the forest outside of the city, leaning against an old oak. She had visited this place before, more than once, in fact. Memories from the past came back to her, when she’d rest on the fallen trees, enjoying the smell and touch of soft moss and grass. If not for the unpleasant fog looming over the forest, she’d feel much calmer right now. The moon’s faint light illuminated the trees around her, casting a soft shadow on the forest floor. She closed her eyes, wrapping herself in the warm cloak, getting lost in thoughts once again.
Wrapped up in her own reflections, she didn’t notice the sudden whisper of motion that caught her attention. Suddenly, a figure emerged, as though appearing out of thin air. Although his face was covered by shadows, she knew it was the person she’d been waiting for. He gave her a long stare, a glimmer of satisfaction flickering in his eyes as if pleased by her presence. His expression slowly shifted, as though some unseen thought had soured it into disappointment.
-It would be wise of you to take some kind of weapon when you travel through the night, don’t you think? – he crossed his arms, giving her a faint smile.
-I’m not here to hurt anyone. Not even you – she stopped for a moment – I know what you did; everyone knows. It doesn’t have to end like this, please…
-I’ve already decided. Whatever happens next, it isn’t your fault. In fact, you were one of the few people who tried to convince me otherwise… and you almost succeeded.
-It’s not worth your life. It’s not worth anyone’s life! You’re bringing so much pain to people who love you. It’s not too late to…
She stopped mid-sentence when he moved closer, looking straight into her eyes. His face, now outlined by the moonlight, showed a blend of deep concern and regretfulness. Eternal’s breath stuttered as she gazed into Drakon’s eyes. She could see the hollow emptiness within them, a silent plea for redemption that he no longer believed could come. A burning hatred toward those who hurt him in the past that he could not forgive. A belief that soon everything would end – the pain, the guilt, the anger. Everything swallowed by flames.
-Every time we met, you'd point at me with a bow drawn, ready to shoot. This time you didn’t take it with you. I… I really wish you did.
He reached to his neck and took off a necklace with a small, black feather on it and slipped it into Eternal’s hand. Hearing this, her eyes started to tear up, slowly letting out a few silent tears that traced down her cheeks. With a slow, tender movement, he wiped the tears away, his hand resting on her face just long enough to pull her closer. She lifted her gaze again to meet his eyes, closing the distance between them as he leaned in for a kiss.
Their lips slowly separated, and the silence between them grew heavy with emotions they couldn’t quite name. For a moment, his eyes were bright like a flame, briefly filled with light before they dimmed again. He stepped back, unease settling in, as if the weight of his act, and how it could hurt her, had only just sunk in. The tone of his voice changed, suddenly becoming colder and more distant.
- I’m really sorry. For everything.
Eternal tried to let out a response, but in an instant, the whole world around her vanished into cold darkness. She opened her eyes as if struck by a sharp pain, sitting up quickly. Her hands shook as she struggled to catch her breath, the rush of anxiety making her vision blur. She didn’t let out a sound, only a quiet gasp, while realizing she was lying in her own bed with Will by her side still sleeping. Everything that just happened felt like a horrifying dream, but was it? Just in case, she reached to her neck only to realize that a feather necklace was wrapped around it. A haunting realization that everything that happened was real.
