The Rhak'Ess are another ancient race which has been around since the time of the demi Gods, before the dawn of the mortal races, and they were demi Gods themselves once but have long since fallen from power and became mortal themselves. They are one of the few ancient races who still remember the Nagassa, and in fact, the Rhak'Ess were behind the downfall of the Nagassa simply out of jealousy for the power the Nagassa wielded with their primal blood magic. Wanting this power for themselves the Rhak'Ess found a way to slowly corrupt the ancient magic and thus the Nagassa over time without them noticing. The corruption either made the Nagassa turn feral or sometimes even fade from existence from the mortal plain which is how entire Nagassa cities vanished pretty much overnight. However whil they might have destroyed the Nagassa the Rhak'Ess failed to claim their power as they could not find a way to undo their corruption of the blood crystals. In the end they did at least manage to mimic the primal blood magic in a way, though it was nowhere near as potent, by capturing the souls of those Nagassa who had faded from the mortal plain and trapping them inside an arcane amulet mask and technically creating the first Glooms. (Hence why the Rhak'Ess are sometimes called Gloom-mothers.)

These haunted masks not only allowed the Rhak'Ess to wield a form of the Nagassa's power but also to change their appearance at will, but occasionally some of them would turn feral as they became possessed by the proto Gloom they always kept on them, or lose their mind as the trapped Nagassa would take over theirs. These days the Rhak'Ess are mostly known for founding the basis of necromancy but also for their ichormancy, their version of the Nagassa's primal blood magic, which allows them to create armies of undead spiders to do their bidding. Now an undead spider would be bad enough but these undead spiders explode on defeat or can be made to do so by the one controlling them. Most Rhak'Essi have aligned themselves with Dragonhand Azya somehow, even though they don't trust demons since the first demon war, and perhaps they are just plottign to betray her and take her power and empire for themselves just ast they had attempted with the Nagassa.

A few neutral Rhak'Essi settlements still exist in remote cave systems, mountains and jungles each with their own different colorations and culture, but mostly they just want to be left alone because of their kin who have allied themselves With Azya's forces and have branded them traitors for wantign to remain neutral. Though Azya has been recruiting these Rhak'Essi by force lately so they have been forced out of hiding and take sides in the coming demon war, and some have heard a rumor about a surviving Nagassa and intent to hunt them down to finally obtain the knowledge of the primal blood magic which made the Nagassa so powerful that they could even stand up to the dragons back then. That is the one thing the Rhak'Ess have in common with the Nagassa, they both don't like dragons, which makes it all the more puzzling why they would ally themselves with Azya who is part dragon and wants to aid the return of the demons to Eidon. Will the Rhak'Essi redeem themselves or will they be repeating history in their lust for power or will it be their downfall for taking the wrong side...?
