Reminder: My basic situation
I need to remake this recording whenever I notice damage or degradation to the crystals that make up this tool.
It is my hope that we will never need this reminder, but at the very least it will help us notice personality drift.
About us:
Our name is Ramus. Or at least that is the name we have been using for the last few hundred years or so.
While this body may be long-lived, if not immortal, its memory-storage is not infinite.
Lefty has some vague, sad memories of another place and another body. Righty has a feeling that he doesn't want to remember our origin, and theorises that our body may be an reflection of our original mind.
I have placed a special beacon on the coordinates i believe to be my original entry point. There is a crude gravestone carved out of the native stone there, but I either never wrote anything on it, or any text has completely eroded away.
There is one thing all three of us remember clearly: We promised to look after this place!
Why, or even to whom, we promised doesn't matter. That is our duty, so we will carry it out!
Though I suppose the fact that we could never leave this place for long, even if we found our original universe, plays a huge part in that decision.
Our body is an interesting piece of work.
It can easily swim around in whatever atmosphere this place has, and can even travel along strands of energy at ridiculously fast speeds.
Do not try to teleport! It destabilize the environment on both ends, and the resulting explosion at the end point will severely injure you.
We do have some modest magical abilities, but out main strength seems to be the ability to safely harvest and attune to the crystals that grow all around the place. More on those later.
While it has retained some of the biological functions for it, it doesn't actually need to eat or breath -Which is essential for me, since neither of those things are possible here- it instead lives of the magical energies of this place.
I think all our senses are now purely magical, but I have long since forgotten what mundane senses feels like.
The main downside to this body is its reliance on the magical energies of this place. We will start to weaken, and probably die, if we stay in another universe for too long.
We can't exactly experiment very much with this time limit, since we also need those same energies to cut open another rift to get back. 24 local hours seems to be a safe limit, with maybe 48 hours as the absolute max.
And now, about this place:
We call this strange borderworld/universe "Gi".
It seems to be made up of magical energies in different states, and I really wish we knew enough about physics to know how that works.
The only things solid here are the rocks and the crystals that grow out of them. Which may be one of the explanations for the lack of life in here: there is nothing that can form or sustain basic life in here.
The other is the fact that matter from inside and outside Gi doesn't react well to each other. Energy is slow to escape through any rift that I open. The crystals are mostly stable outside Gi, but the rock dissolves into pure energy almost immediately.
Most material I take into Gi either melts or explodes, and any unprotected life-forms dies quickly from magic overload. And they die very messily too! Guess we were the exception, for some reason.
And yes, there are some materials and designs that can survive inside Gi -else I wouldn't be able to have my belts- but they are rare, and anything more advanced than belts and pieces of metal would bring attention to us. I can't risk anyone seeing us slice in and out of Gi. They can't try breaking into something they don't know about.
But most of this are moot points, since I already have my most valuable resource available: the Crystals.
These things are made of immensely powerful concentrated magic, with each color having specific magical properties.
I don't know how long it took me to figure out how to harvest, attune to, and combine them into useful tools like this recorder, but it was clearly long enough for me to forget my origins.
Without any other material to use, I had to resort to tying them together with cut off parts of my hair. It's not exactly a fast or easy to do it, but I can now make a large -though temporary- selection of tools, devices, and weapons if needed.
And my greatest achievement with the crystals may be the dimension-cutter, as it is the one thing that allows me to leave this place. But it is also the one thing that I must never let anyone else get a hold of.
While I am probably the only one that can easily use it, its design is simple enough that someone could extrapolate how it is supposed to work, and then use that in their own designs.
Which brings me to the last point:
While it is hard to establish a stable portal into this place if you are not attuned like me, breaching attempts have and will happen!
When this happens, stay out of line-of-sight so they can't put a bullet in your brain, and then destabilize the event-horizon with either your energized claws or crystal shards. Don't try using black crystals for this. And NEVER, EVER, use green colored crystals in this scenario!
Also: If a giant, ugly, three-armed space-baby in a hoverchair try to open a portal into Gi again, go over to his borderworld and stick another crowbar up his ass!
