Just in case anyone wanted to see the creative process at work...
This story was inspired by real life events of the week of April 27, 2002.
The tanker, 'Insiko 1907', caught fire and was adrift 100 miles from Johnson Atoll in the Pacific. The cruise ship 'Norweigan Star' rescued the humans. But Forgea, a 2 year old terrier who had been on board since she was a puppy, was left there. A $48,000 rescue attampt by the Hawaiian Humane Society was scrapped when they thought the tanker had sunk. Then the Coast Guard found the ship and dropped off pizza, granola bars, and oranges, yes oranges, for the dog. Forgea ran below decks on April 22, when Hawaiian fishermen tried to coax her off the ship. Forgea was rescued April 27th after 24 days alone on the ship.
Another news items of that same week was that scientists had fitted rats with remote control devices with which they were able to control their movements.
These silly news items rattled around in my head and wouldn't go away until I created this silly comic.
