Kate accidentally fell pregnant when she was 18. Unfortunately for Kate life decided to kick her while she was down. Her terminally ill boyfriend passed away, her mother kicked her out, and she lost contact with her sisters. Kate's pregnancy progressed normally, despite the heartbreak she was experiencing. She had Cecilia nine months later and she is the light of Kate's life.

As Cecilia grew up Kate was astonished to find all the ways Cecilia was different. Where Kate had preferred to stay inside with her toys Cecilia wanted nothing more than to play outside. Not that Kate minds, she's happy if her daughter is happy.
