Some more doodles. I'm trying to figure out how these things would work...
This looks better, anatomy-wise than my last drawing. Of course it's easy for it to look better because it's in a static pose and it's not truly fleshed out...
But i think if i change the shoulders by adding some flight muscles that wrap around to the front, to the topmost part of the sternum, it might look better. I looked at a leopard skeleton to draw this, so my cat body is much better shaped - i think that helps a lot too because my last one was FUBAR
If the breasts jut forward this way, due to the way the forelegs are set back, they won't get in the way of said legs quite as much.
Now to draw something more whole! Or at least attempt...
I like the idea of a naked sphinx face being human-ish, but with a more protruding 'muzzle' ...kind of an in-between. Though i also like the idea of them wearing elabourate masks and headdresses...
...
Apologies for uploading such crap. But hey, it's not hurting anyone, right? :P
EDIT: Added sketch of the headpiece i drew on the same page afterward. I really like the idea of sphinxes having their true faces concealed behind an expressionless mask. Adds to the mysteriousness i guess...
You can't read her face as she watches you struggle with her riddle. Unnerved and worried about the consequences of answering wrongly, you stutter as you answer, betraying your insecurity - though undoubtedly she already sensed your apprehension. The pause you're met with afterward lasts an eternity as her expressionless porcelain gaze holds you locked in place like a death sentence.

When ever I draw sphinxes I do to torso/shoulders and upperarms human, with the lower arm area catlike. I like your more catlike look thou.
I used to see the sphinx poses and think the breasts were oddly fit but I saw a contortionist act on YouTube that had a almost perfect sphinx like pose.

Have you checked out the wikipedia article? You could interpret your version based on different cultures. Egyptian, for example, were human headed lioness bodies. ;) The Greeks singular Sphynix was a godling that was part female, part lion, with the tail that ended in a snake head. The Persians were kind of hybrided between the two other cultures. :) Just a thought to help you along!
