Did you know the "witch" outfit is actually from old time brewers? Women who lived outside of town, and brewed beer - the cauldron is originally from brewing beer, the pointy hat was used to catch attention at market from a distance. After these brewers started getting pressure from the church, they'd put brooms out in the road decorated in different ways to indicate what kinda' beer was available. And the cats were to keep mice out of the barley/hops granaries. I heard it on NPR. :D

That doesn't explain the chartreuse ZOT though.
