Not all that sure that heavy armor is really a good idea. The best combat tactic for centaur would be hit and run attacks with the long bow then melee charges with lance or pole-arm. The out right worse thing a centaur could do is to stand their ground as that eliminates their best advantage and that is speed.
If I was up against him I would go after the legs with a sweeping attack with a pole-arm as that is where horses are most vulnerable and easiest to way to attack as its very hard for a horse to jump out of the way of a long sweeping weapon.
