That realization and dejection. That hurts. I still kinda want to say "duh, you are still injured and can barely walk!" but the realization that he's not going to be there to protect his best friend that was just recently attacked must feel awful. Still, Kass has to have a guard, even going to the Enclave. I wonder who it will be?
It's a pretty obvious idea, and wheeled chairs have been around since ancient times. But there's the cost issue - this is a barely-industrial tech level, so any wheelchair would be entirely hand-crafted, and priced accordingly. The house with a little string-pulling by Diplomas Kass might get him a not-too-comfortable wooden chair with wheels that could be pushed around, but luxuries like 'suspension' are going to cost a lot more.
I'm just picturing it in two panels
First one : Groups of yinglets discussing : "Hey, maybe we could make our enclave accessible to people wizh leggy problems ?"
Second one : Same group of yinglets, running around like headless chickens while the whole area is on fire for some reason

I would suspect the Trademsater would want to have at least 1 guard assigned. He is currently a valued diplomat and asset, and someone has already made an attempt on him, thus Elm's current condition. And if I recall, it is already fairly typical for any Enclave female to have a guard when out an about. I am sure Viz would diplomatically rip the Tradmaster a new one if he didn't send a guard with Kas.
This meant that she could probably make herself room if she needed to get to Kass in an emergency. I'm pretty sure the walls and roofs of most Yinglet huts would not hinder her if she really needed to get inside in a hurry.
I have no idea about her actual combat experience, though I think she could handle a dozen Yinglets or less.

wonder who is replacement guard is going to be?
I could see it being Isher since she technically is a guard even if she hates doing it or possibly Kalgkur since he was introduced recently and I could see the guard wanting to get him out of the city for a bit for things to calm down after the incident in the market.

Honestly I think the preserved knowledge of germ theory but lost knowledge of building a bomb is one of the most fun realistic implied-post-apocalyptic worldbuilding in this series. Like… duh. I know germ theory and would teach it to my children but have no clue how to build a bomb or even a basic engine or battery. Of course a smattering of conceptual scientific knowledge could survive where technical build skill would wane.. it makes sense in hindsight but I don’t know if I’d have thought of it. Brilliant worldbuilding.
More importantly, making most modern technology requires large-scale industry. If you know how a waterwheel works and are handy with tools, you can build one out of wood fairly easily to power a millstone or a pulley or whatever. But none of your knowledge of how an internal combustion engine works will help you if the society doesn't have the technology to cast and mill an engine block.
And there's just the matter of books. Until you can make a printing press, books are very time-consuming to make, so preserving knowledge is going to be difficult. And if this is a failed-colony scenario, it's possible that all their knowledge was stored through technology - a library full of the futuristic version of USB sticks isn't going to help when the technology to maintain computers is lost.
A less likely scenario is that this might be deliberate: Maybe the ship was full of Space-Amish, and they deliberately picked a planet in the arse-end of nowhere because they wanted to make a new society according to some religious or ideological drive that had no place for their old technology. But if that were the case I'd expect to see exactly one ruin, and it would be the ruin of the colony ship.

If Kass needs a bodyguard, it's probably going to be an existing character. There are really not many contenders. There's Isher, Kalgur, or a contingent of yinglets generously offered by the Enclave with Beizel or Kattajack in charge of it.
Kalgur is not entirely out of consideration. He has no combat experience at all, and he has only briefly even been on guard duty, so he is in no way qualified to be a bodyguard. But Baxxid ideas of qualifications may differ - perhaps they see his profile as someone who is both capable of violence but abhorrent of it as just the right personality for a guard, and the council pull some strings to get him the position. It couldn't hurt their interests to have a pawn of their own in play.

Hi, all you OOPs fans! I'm here to remind you yet again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last monthat 1135 votes and 44th place. It's currently at 830 votes and 58th place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

Poor, Elim. Can't be there to protect his bro. I've made a guess in the past that Isher might be his replacement, but now Kalgkur could be on the table as well. Or perhaps an entirely new character or escort of Ivenmoth guards. But seeing Kalgkur and Kass plotlines collide be neat to see. Perhaps, Kalgkur could give some perspective on co-existing with another species much like Kass will have to learn to co-exist as a yinglet with the enclave.
Both are good for intimidation, but lack combat experience. This isn't some ceremonial posting: There has already been one attack upon the diplomat. The role should go to someone more qualified. Although...
On the other hand, Kal might well be in for a change of career - he has perhaps demonstrated that he someone who is both capable of violence if the situation calls for it and someone who can be trusted not to resort to violence without good cause. He also has a reputation for inter-species cooperation, which means he can potentially contribute more to the role than just security - as the always-present but ignored guard, he will be able to observe many things and later offer his own insight. There is a good argument to be made for hand-picking him as bodyguard.
There may be the problem of getting him to actually /fit/ in some of the yinglet buildings.

I don’t think Kalgkur would have to worry about fitting in yinglet huts since Kass should be safe once he is at the enclave. He was only attacked by exiles and the enclave has their own guards.
Viracroix wanted Kass to spend more time at the enclave which has led me to believe he might spend multiple nights there, so he may only need an escort there that’ll only return when he needs escorted back to House Ivenmoth.

Reasons Kalgur may be considered for bodyguard duty:
- He doesn't want to fight.
- But if he has to, he can cut his way through an army of assassins.
- He may need some time away from the city right now.
- Baxxid have their own desires to spy.
It's not beyond possibility that Baxxid leadership might suggest Kal as bodyguard - the position gets him out of the city for a time to think over recent events, he is qualified for the role, and he can report back on whatever is going on with the Yinglet situation. A convenient spy. Though of course the Trademaster will be entirely aware of the spying, and the Baxxid leadership will know he knows, and he knows they know he knows... but some subterfuge is always in order, for appearance's sake.
I think the Baxxid must have a great interest in yinglets as potential assistants. So much more affordable than humans, and ready to benefit from education.
