Well it has been a long haul attending school for my young friends Dai (pronounced “day”) Blackclaw and Wilber Crooktail, but it has finally paid off for them -- it’s June and GRADUATION! Yay!
Wilber graduates with a doctorate in Arcane Studies (the yellow ribbon) with honors (the red ribbon). And Dai graduates (despite expectations of some that he would be either spending a number of years in a penal institution or making a visit to the local mortuary).
I am very proud of both of them.

*nods* I was influenced by all my wolf picture references. That and somehow having white and light blue eyes in the middle of all that dark gray gave Wilber a staring look. Dai already has white markings on his face and with his lighter orangey-tan facial fur (compared to Wilber's gray fur), a little more white doesn't seem to produce that off-setting look -- even when he is goggling at the camera.
Ever notice how some people react when someone points a camera at them? That reaction is magnified after sitting through a three-hour graduation ceremony where the old fart dignitaries talk and talk and talk and... and then finally you're free after all those years sitting in classrooms listening to instructors talk and talk and talk and ....

Well then, congratulations are certainly in order, along with an invitation to my house, for a Graduation/Beginning of Summer Party. What interests me the most here, is that this is the first time you've ever drawn a portrait of Dai and Wilber. Don't ask me why, but I'm a very visual person, and having a drawing like this, of all three of your co-stars makes it much easier to write about them. You do have me curious as a cat about the Wolf's degree in Arcane Studies. There's about three different things that could mean, but I'd rather hear it from the Lionus' mouth.
Not being a writer I find it easier to show my characters are pictures that hopefully give a sense of what their personalities are.
As to Arcane Studies, it is a revolutionary pilot curriculum being tried at Mayfield College that allows” gifted students” to pursue unstructured “connective studies” based upon their native interests and to where those interests lead them. In Wilber’s case his learning path has passed through ancient languages, ancient religions, theories on ancient magic, ancient history, hieroglyphics, theories on the existence and possible locations of Atlantis and Mu, chemistry, theories on transmutation, medieval superstitions and beliefs. Some of his classes consisted only of Wilber and the instructor.
With Wilber’s help Dai passed all his classes, regular academic classes, and on his own excelled at a number of school sports along with other <ahem> “campus activities“. To his credit however, Dai helped Wilber come out of his shell -somewhat- and have an unremarkable social life outside of the classroom and the school library.

Hope you get it fixed, FS6.

The expressions were an attempt to portray my characters’ personalities more than just a physical representation of their faces. Dai, the lionmorph, is the more outgoing up-for-any-adventure one of the group, while Wilber is bookish and shy. Any direct attention directed at the young wolfmorph, like being given academic honors in front of a large crowd of several hundred people and then having someone take his picture, tends to make him uncomfortable even among friends.
