After Bowser heard that Mario isn't going to available today, he's starting to get bored. But when his long distant brother comes to his castle with a special mushroom, he decides to try it out.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Silence. It’s what fills the empty and hollow room, filled with the decorations of the middle ages. From the weapons in their stands, the beautiful paintings hanging on the walls to dedicate a glorious leader, a red carpet that goes from the enlarged wooden doors all the way down to a massive throne. On this throne lies The King Koopa as his servants and soldiers call him, yet others call him by another name, King Bowser. Bowser is the largest Koopa known in the world of The Valley of Bowser, which was named after him of course. He’s a tough guy who’s ideal of victory is to take over The Mushroom Kingdom that’s just miles away from where he is. His aggression comes from his own greed and pride, always dreaming over being the king of everything.
But everything has a price to pay. Each time he tries to plan out his attacks and kidnaps Princess Peach, the ruler of The Mushroom Kingdom, a plumber known as Mario comes to his castle and destroys Bowser’s plans. It’s gotten to the point where the Koopa needed to raise the stakes from a bigger army to advance machinery, but still Mario knows how to defeat him. Today as Bowser sits on his throne, something didn’t seem to add up. There are rumors that Mario is absent for the time being, which would be good for Bowser, but the problem is that he doesn’t have any plans for the day. To be fair, there are times where he does have some fun with Mario whenever they aren’t fighting, like racing, playing a board game, or even just having a talk. His evil stuff is basically like an average Tuesday. For now, he’s just not sure what to do. He’s bored and nothing pops up in his mind. His servants are busy cleaning the place and his Koopa Troopas are out guarding the palace.
“Ugh….” He groans, leaning back on his throne. “The only day that I want to do something that doesn’t involve my plans, Mario is gone!” Bowser complains. He’s even considering just taking a short nap until something happens.
Just as he gets out of his throne to check on his servants if they finished cleaning his room, one of the soldiers opens the doors real wide before running towards the fat turtle. “Lord Bowser! Lord Bowser!” The Koopa Troopa shouts, panting as he’s losing his breath quickly.
Bowser growls in anger deeply, showing off his aggressive side at this Koopa Troopa. “Did you ever hear the phrase knocking first!? What exactly do you want!?” He’s like this to his people, it’s how he can show dominance to both his allies and foes.
“Y-You….” He wheezes as he can’t seem to finish a sentence. “You have…..”
“Spit it out!” Bowser demands impatiently.
“You have a visitor. He wants to see you.” He finally speaks, panting heavily. If only these Koopa Troopas were so chubby, like their King, they wouldn’t be breathing this hard.
“A visitor you say?” This brings curiosity to Bowser as he wasn’t expecting a visitor today. He wonders if Mario is back from whatever he was doing before. “Well then, what are you waiting for!? Send them in!” He commands before going back to his throne to sit back down.
“Of course, my lord!” Rather than running, the Koopa Troopa paces over to the front entrance, keeping the doors open. “Bring the visitor in!” He shouts from the otherside, calling towards the exit.
Just for a while, Bowser awaits this visitor with a smirk on his face. If it isn’t Mario, then he’ll be happy to hear what they request of him. Possibly an ally or maybe a gift for his royalty and greatness. Finally, this visitor walks through the giant doors with some heavy footsteps, the same ones Bowser makes. To the King’s own eyes, his jaw drops on the floor and his heart stops for a moment. “It cannot be….” He whispers to himself.
On the other side of the elongated throne room lies another Koopa, the same size and height as Bowser. Except rather than having the lemon-colored scales, this Koopa is blue. They both have the same hairstyle but the coloring is different with Bowser’s being red with this Koopa’s being orange, the same with the eyebrows. He even has a gray-colored spiky shell, collars around his arms, a fat tail with a spike sticking out at the end, horns on upper sides of his head and clawed hands and feet. “It’s been a long time, Bowser.” The Koopa says with that grin on his face.
“B-Brawler? It can’t be….” Bowser is in definite shock as he stands up from his throne again. Brawler is Bowser’s long distant brother that he hasn’t spoken to in years. For him to be here is a surprise, one that makes the Koopa King worried for his life. If there’s one person he’s afraid of, it’s someone who’s the same size as him. “W-What are you doing here?” He asks.
Brawler laughs as if that was some sort of a joke. “What am I doing here? Do you really need to ask that? I came here to see you of course!” This koopa seems to be in a good mood. Then again, Bowser always sees Brawler in a good mood all of those years ago.
He crosses his arms and huffs. “Well you’re here for another reason other than to meet me! I can tell!” Bowser didn’t seem happy to see him in the first place, as if he knew that his brother is up to something devious.
“Heh, the same ol brother. Fine, I’m here for different reasons other than meeting you.” He had a large satchel on his side that Bowser didn’t see before. Brawler opens it up and digs through it until he pulls something out. What it was is something that Bowser didn’t expect from him, a glass container with a yellow-colored mushroom inside. He walks up closer to Bowser to give him a better view.
Bowser didn’t know that Brawler was interested in mushrooms, which makes him wonder if he could be working with Mario. Then again, that’s a stupid assumption as where Brawler lives is basically on the other side of the world. “A mushroom? You came all the way here to show me a mushroom?” It’s not very impressive for him.
Brawler chuckles. “You may think it’s just a mushroom, but I can tell you otherwise. You see, I’ve grown this mushroom myself in a special greenhouse at my house. I grow certain types of mushrooms for your information and this one is my latest prototype.” Again, Bowser didn’t seem interested as his dull expression says it all. “I call it The Mega-Loon!”
Bowser raises his eyebrow at the name. “Mega-Loon? Mega as in large in size?” The mushroom itself didn’t look huge for Bowser, just a regular sized mushroom. “Explain it more for me.”
“Well, The Mega-Loon is combined using the Mega Mushroom and the P-Balloon I used carefully to create this. And let me tell you, P-Balloons are no joke.” Brawler doesn’t want to go into detail about his P-Balloon experience.
“Hmmm…..” He’s heard of Mega Mushrooms before, but not P-Balloons surprisingly. It’s strange but he wonders if this is something he would use against Mario. “Alright then, so exactly what can this special mushroom do when….someone eats it?
That’s when Brawler lets out that grinning smirk on his face. “That’s why I’m here. I’ve heard that you were the King of this Land and what better way to show your people who’s the biggest is for you to try out my mushroom? You will not regret it.” He tries to persuade him to eat the mushroom.
Bowser thinks about it. Even though he doesn’t trust his brother that much, at least it’s something he could use to surprise his enemies. Besides, it’s not like Mario can take down him if he’s ten times larger. “Alright fine, give me the mushroom!” He takes the risk.
Brawler chuckles before opening the container and handing the mushroom to him. “Eat the whole thing if you need to.” He advises.
“Shut up! You don’t need to tell me what to do!” Bowser says to him rudely, popping the entire mushroom into his mouth. The taste itself felt off from any mushroom he knew, like a rubbery flavor mixed with air strangely. He wanted to spit it out, but he also needed to know what this does. Gulping it down, he sticks out his tongue in front of Brawler to show that he ate the entire thing. “Now what?”
“Now we wait for the effects.” Brawler explains, strangely taking a few steps back from Bowser though since half of the hybrid is a Mega Mushroom, Bowser can understand why. As he waits around, he starts to feel a little funny on the outside and inside of his body. He doesn’t see himself grow bigger at the moment but he does feel strangely light rather than heavy weighted.
“Some effects….” He’s disappointed by the fact this isn’t an instant growth. Would he need to wait for a couple of hours? With a sigh, he goes to his throne in disbelief that this mushroom will do anything. As he leans back in his chair though, something didn’t sit right. It was too soft and bouncy, as if his throne had those cushions for sofas. “Huh?” He gets up and turns around to check his throne. He presses down on it, hard as a rock as it should be. That’s when he had to check his spikey shell. He couldn’t take it off nor look behind him to see it, but he uses his fingers to give it a poke. To his surprise, they weren’t solid, but more like rubbery and hollow. “My shell! Why is my shell soft!?” He even brushes his spikes which were more like balloon bulges than sharp knives. From Brawler’s point of view, Bowser’s shell has been turned into an inflatable balloon, easy to pop and deflate. He turns around towards Brawler in anger. “What did you do to my shell!?” He shouts, accusing him of this.
Brawler knew that Bowser would be furious at early effects of the mushroom. “Easy, I think your shell is the least of your worries.”
“What do you mean you-” When he points his finger right at Brawler, he’s in immediate shock at the look of his hand. Rather than it being scaly and fat, it has this shine to it that got Bowser’s attention. He looks at his hands carefully, bending his fingers once he finds out that he can feel nothing but air inside. His skin is softer than rough with the nails on the tips of his fingers are just like the spikes from his shell, spongy. “What’s happening to me!?” The rubber spreads down to his arms and up his shoulders. From there, that’s when it transforms his torso as the scales smooth and melt together to give it a flat surface with his belly still rounded out, full of air as if he pumped himself into a big-bellied balloon. Just like with his arms and hands, his legs and feet lose their usual weight with the nails on his toes softened. His tail, which he can still move, is like an elongated balloon that can be bendable. Finally, it reaches towards his face as it makes his snout squishy and his teeth inflated. His hair binds together with his body to connect before his entire face is completely ballooned. Now, he’s nothing more than an inflatable pooltoy. “What have you done!?” He tries to take a step, putting more pressure on his foot than before as he waddles over to his brother.
“That was just phase one, Bowser. The next one will make up for your transformation.” Brawler eases just so Bowser won’t attack him.
“Phase one!?” Bowser didn’t know there were phases to this. Just as he could do anything else, a strange hissing sound comes from inside his body. “What is that noise!?” He asks with pure fear. The noise gets louder as it echoes through the room. Suddenly he begins to grow out of nowhere, just as he wanted. “Whoa….!” He watches himself get taller and wider by the second, from his original height to being taller than his brother.
Brawler laughs as he’s proud to witness his work in action. “Beautiful! Look how big you’re getting, Bowser! Enjoy it while you can!” He stands further back once Bowser’s height is half of the ceiling above him. His feet take up the width of the carpet as he’s forced to squish them together with his belly and shell taking up most of the space. He puts his arms up, barely touching the walls with both hands.
“Nrgh!” Bowser is losing space each second in his throne room. Once he’s about to hit his head on the ceiling, he bends down one knee onto the ground just for more room. His tail pushes against his throne, pushing it back against the wall with unusual force. “Whoa….! Did I….” Even with his body made up with mostly air, he still has the strength of a titan.
His brother leans against the door, ready to head out. “Yep, you still keep your strength, even as a big balloon! I’ll meet you outside!” He said before finally leaving. The servants of the palace panic in a hurry once they are alerted by Bowser’s unattended growth. Now taking up seventy five percent of the room, his head touches the ceiling with his arms and shoulders pressing against the walls.
At first, Bowser thought that he would be stuck here as he grew but to his surprise, the walls and the floor above break apart as if they were made of sand, shattering like glass and rubble. “No! My throne room!” He cries out as he’s witnessing the destruction of his castle. Once he gains more space, he stands up from the ground and breaks apart another floor above. The servants who were still trying to escape fell down to the ground, some landing on Bowser’s feet. The good news is that their shells protect them from the fall below.
With the flood of the servants and Koopa Troopas escaping the castle that’s soon about to collapse, Brawler waits for the tall structure to break down with the rise of his giant balloonified brother. He watches it shake and crumble bit by bit with the sounds of Koopa Troopas screaming and the ground shaking like a violent earthquake. “Oh man, he must be having a rough time in there.” It might be possible that he knew where to exactly give him the mushroom. After all, he likes to mess around with Bowser a lot.
With one last shattering earthquake, the entire castle breaks apart into smithereens as an enlarged Bowser stands up and roars into the nightly and dark cloudy sky. “ARRRRGHH!” His voice echoes through the valleys as pieces of the castle rain down on the crowds of Kooopa Troopas who screamed for their lives. Bowser, now with his swelling finally stopped, looks down at the ground. He didn’t know how to exactly describe this as it had mixed feelings of being impressed and miserable on being large. “Ugh…..this feels…at least somewhat good.” He’ll say. All it cost him was his castle which was more like a smashed up rock surrounding his feet. He can even hear the tiny screams of his weaklings as if they didn’t know that was their leader. He tries to look for Brawler just so he could see about giving him a piece of his mind.
For Brawler, he knew that he had to go as he could tell by the look on Bowser’s face that he was indeed angry. Though he wonders for which part, the fact that his entire body turned into a living pool toy or the fact that he got so large he destroyed his home by accident. “Welp, this is my cue to go.” He bends his head down and merges with the crowd as if he can camouflage himself.
Bowser can’t see him around the area which is saddening. With a sigh-filled groan, he just stands there, thinking on what to do now. If Mario sees him like this, he’ll give up easily. Maybe this is how he should take over the Mushroom Kingdom, or at least what’s left of it after he destroys it all. Would it even be possible to rule something that’s annihilated? He’s about to find out soon enough once he takes his first step, a loud and heavy footstep that shakes the entire ground. “I think I’ll give Mario a visit now.” He’s going to find Mario once and for all. It’s time that his new plan will go into effect.
