it's obscure enough i dont think most people would recognise it. when people think "roman" they usually think of the lorica segmentata on the right which is - as the name implies - the segmented plate armour.
The Squamata was a lighter armour set typically used by archers in the later periods of rome. Brass was lighter than steel and the scaled design made it easier to move in since it could flex more! since archers were not expected to get into a melee brawl, it was mostly used to protect from incoming arrowfire!
