Actually, Walt Disney wanted to stick to doing more Oswald cartoons, but the problem was he didn't own copyrights to the rabbit's cartoon series. Some guy at Universal named Charles Muntz owned Oswald and he stole him from Disney due to some money and employment issues the two men had. Munntz fired Walt Disney form the production of the Oswald cartoons. Real bad custidy (sp?) battle. which caused Disney to go on his own and co-create Mickey Mouse.

It certainly explains why the Disney company is so possessive about its intellectual property.

Ironically, Disney owns Oswold again (as evidenced by Epic Mickey, the Wii game). NBC Universal sold the character to Disney.

Indeed, Disney was so hurt from losing Oswald he had to make sure anything he produced was copyrighted under his namesame studio.
