After drawing Mick and typing up a description for that art where I also mentioned Reed and Camilla, I decided that I should draw Reed... and then I decided I should draw Camilla, too, because she deserves a bit of development.
I was looking for another good urban shot to use as a background, but when I found this one in my saved photos, I really thought the colors would work nicely with her, tried it out and liked the results, and decided to use it even if the photo quality isn't the best. My phone camera seems to not do very well in low light conditions, but sometimes these slightly grainy shots seem to work well as backgrounds.
While I definitely associate Camilla with the city and its nightlife, the idea that she might wander around a city park at dusk just to have some quiet time definitely seems to suit her as well.

Camilla is, and always has been, a sort of one-dimensional character. I feel like I never never really bothered to develop her much, but as I think about it, she's actually got a bit more going on than I thought.
First appearing in 2013, her main role seemed to be simply to be another "eye candy" character, and I had a bit of fun playing with her in that role in 2013 and 2014 and even into 2015 and 2016 a bit, but my interest in her just sorta fell off abruptly like so many other characters of mine.
Personality-wise she always struck me as somewhat snotty and sassy, not necessarily in an insufferable or unpleasant way, but in a way that made her feel like she'd feel mildly unapproachable. Fairly early on, I decided she should be the cashier at Bennetton's Pizza, sometimes doing delivery work as well, and some of my early art of her features her riding a delivery scooter, her typical smug smirk indicating that she enjoys this aspect of the job at least a little bit. I imagined that when she was at the counter, she'd often be leaning, or scrolling on her phone, or even chewing gum and blowing bubbles out of boredom, and on particularly slow days she might even wander over to the ancient arcade cabinets that still sit in the small lobby of the restaurant.
The idea of her actually getting into the game and showing some excitement, only to suddenly switch to embarrassment and annoyance when interrupted by a customer, the other delivery boy Rory, or even one of the Bennettons coming in to check on things, seems very in character for her. Rory, being a childish dork himself, would probably start to excitedly chat at her in his manchild dork language while she just rolls her eyes and walks away, and I can't really imagine Bennett or Sandy being particularly upset with her either--provided there's no customers waiting, and all the sweeping and cleaning and other work tasks are taken care of, and the quarters she's blown trying to beat Rory's high scores didn't come from the till.
Outside of being a mediocre employee at a small family-run pizza restaurant, I decided that her and nerdy cat Tiffany were close friends and perhaps even roommates, in an "opposites attract" sort of way. Camilla, the outgoing sassy socialite and Tiffany, the shy, awkward college student, seem to have good chemistry. I figured Camilla would often drag Tiffany along on outings, taking her to bars and the like, showing a bit of disregard for Tiffany's introverted nature (but always respecting Tiffany's schoolwork and studies), and in turn actually showing a genuine interest in some of Tiffany's intellectual pursuits, which I never did actually decide upon. At any rate, Camilla is always ready to give Tiffany a confidence boost, and the two enjoy their time spent together, even if Tiffany is often awkward and hesitant at first about going to a bar or a concert or whatever.
She also has a genuine interest in Mick, the lonely border collie guy that just sorta showed up in town at some point. She digs his "mysterious loner" vibes, but their shared interest in the music scene and hitting up the local rock scene definitely gives them something to bond over and a way for her to get closer to him. Mick, in turn, definitely likes her, and I imagine what few moments of genuine happiness Mick experiences probably happen with Camilla present.
Beyond that, though, I never did determine much about Camilla's personality or past or even her present. Like many of my characters, a lot of her own characterization hinges on how she connects with others, and a lot of that is based on interactions I never bothered to describe or draw.
Most art of her led people to believe she was a more promiscuous character, owing to how she seems very confident posing in lingerie and revealing outfits and the like. A couple pics of her have gloomier vibes, hinting at some underlying sadness. Over the years I never even bothered to assign her a surname.
However, while drawing her and thinking about her again for the first time in years, I decided that at the very least, she needed a surname, and I settled upon "Gwyneira", a Welsh name that very fittingly means "snow white". It has a sorta pretentious vibe to it that sorta sparked a bit of inspiration, that perhaps Camilla's sorta snotty and bratty nature hints at her being from a family that is well-off and perhaps she was a bit spoiled as a child, but her current circumstances indicate that she may be estranged or disowned by them for some reason. The fact that she never uses or shares her surname, sorta like Mick, might indicate that she's trying to keep the family connection a secret, or at least dodge awkward and uncomfortable questions about it.
It may be lazy to just go with "this character's past is sorta mysterious and they don't talk about it", or to lean into that to sorta buy myself time to figure things out, but it seems to work for secondary and tertiary characters whose time in the spotlight is yet to come.
As for the art itself, I decided to make some slight modifications to her design, despite my tendency to not alter old character designs too heavily. I changed her old "some portion of her hair is dyed blue" look to blue highlights, and removed the odd blue-grey coloration that was only present on her ears. She still favors the blue/black/white color scheme, as she is one of those characters whose color palette/aesthetic is actually a defining feature of them as a character, although she's dressed a bit more "grunge" or "punk" here than usual. As this photo was from an October evening, it makes sense that she'd cover up a bit more, even if her lupine heritage and her bit of winter weight (I struggle with drawing truly slender characters, meaning even characters I intend to not be all that chubby still come out a bit curvier than they probably should) means she isn't as bothered by the cooling weather as a human might be... that, and I recall it still being a comfortably yet worryingly warm evening and I was fine in a t-shirt and jeans.
The photo features the same bridge as previous art of Topher, but from the other side of the river. The bridge is fairly busy and is part of a state highway. As I type this up, I realize that I have two pictures of Topher featuring bridges in the background, with the second of those featuring another photo from this evening and this park but with another bridge in the background, as this large park (and a small marina) basically occupies the entire riverfront space between the two bridges. As previously mentioned, I chose the photo not necessarily because I thought the scene was the best fit at first, but because the colors of the bridge and railing and sky and even the lampposts match quite closely with Camilla's own aesthetics, but once I added her in I realized that a lonely dusk in the park was the perfect place for her to have some quiet time, away from work, away from the bars and clubs, and just be alone with her thoughts for a bit.
She's probably gonna meet up with Reed and Mick and check out a concert tonight while Tiffany studies for an exam back at the apartment, but for now, she just needs some quiet time to herself.
Perhaps Topher and Camilla will even encounter each other during their respective strolls, which might be mildly awkward with Camilla and Topher being coworkers, but working different shifts most of the time and them being friendly enough but having little in common with each other outside of working at the same little pizza place. As both seem to be lost in their respective moods and spending time alone with their feelings, a friendly nod and small wave might be all that's shared, but that's probably all that's needed.
I know a lot of my art as of late has been somber, with simple and repetitive poses since I seem to be enjoying coloring more than drawing nowadays and I am mostly doing it to keep busy. I know very few people actually read these long descriptions that I spend nearly an hour typing up at times as my mind runs wild with thoughts besides the usual, and I put all this character information out there just so it's *out there* somewhere.
I know none of it really gets engagement, but I'm doing it for myself.
And it's already gone back to feeling more like an obligation and a habit than a hobby.
