The term 'Gravemilk' was coined a long time ago by a peer of the Goddess Yorn around the time of the founding of the Blood Bailey. It was in reference to one who tended to 'The Garden of Somewhere', yes that was the name, which was a field of strange plants that sat between the borders of life and death.
These individuals are commonly seen as companions to what people call 'Grim Reapers', as the reaper would harvest the soul and ferry them to the garden that the Gravemilk would care for. Souls of the dead that were successfully gathered by the agents of death would sometimes be filled with immeasurable volumes of regret or animosity, amounts of which that would usually keep them tethered to reality.
