More Sad Boy art, this time featuring Angelo visiting that historical district I have taken a liking to wandering around.
Even if it's mostly bars and it only occupies a few city blocks, it's adjacent to a large park (the one that occupies the spaces between the two bridges that I have used as backgrounds for pics of Topher and Camilla recently) that is also decent to walk around and I can easily work a little tour of the old town into my walk in the park.
A shame it requires a bit of driving to reach, though, which sorta feels like it defeats the purpose of going for a walk in the first place...

I have all but given up on replying to comments forever ago, when the depression and isolation sapped any interest I may have had, and every attempt I have made since I have felt overwhelmed by the number of comments backlogged, but I do still check in every few days to see what the handful of people that still care about my art have to say... And this one is in response to one comment in particular from a friend over on Weasyl.
"How about drawing Angelo. His crush asked him to a fancy restaurant (the sort of place that wouldn't have me for a waiter let alone a customer), he's had a great night, he was a little worried about making a fool of himself and his share of the check but they just thanked HIM for a great night and went to pay the lot.
If you draw it play some happy music while you do."
Not a bad idea, but... I haven't really decided who he might be interested in, I know in the past that I have speculated maybe that squirrel guy I rarely draw, Toby, or maybe the underdeveloped fox Casey, or since Angelo is bi, perhaps one of the lesser-developed ladies might be interested in a short (he's like 5'5 or something) chubby dork like him... That's alright, maybe he's solo for now, waiting for a date or something or just to have dinner with friends instead.
I don't really have any pics of fancy restaurants, either, unless a couple random shots of a Wendy's count, but I DO have a few shots from that historical district with all the bars... While Angelo had dreams of one day opening up his own restaurant or bar, and enjoys cooking, I don't really see him as the type to really frequent fancy restaurants himself anyways. He works as a waiter at some as-yet-undefined "casual dining" restaurant that has waitstaff and whatnot but doesn't require reservations or have a dress code or anything, and probably doesn't want to spend his free time in the same sort of place he works.
He seems more like someone that would hang out at a bar or pub, or hit up a local bakery or pizza place or diner or something. He probably knows the Bennettons and Hari and Kamala over at the Panda Market quite well, he probably pops into whatever shitty fast-food place Dominic Mephitto works at on occasion, he's probably run into Buck Donner at some roadside diner or dive bar once or twice. While I don't drink myself (and if I did, I wouldn't spend the price of a six-pack of beer or an entire bottle of liquor on a single drink at a bar anyways), I imagine Angelo probably enjoys the occasional cocktail or Jack and Coke.
Well, the pics of the street could definitely work, maybe he's waiting for someone or welcoming the viewer to join him for some drinks or a stroll around the bar district...
But then... I just couldn't do it. I couldn't draw him happy. I couldn't muster a smile for him, a cheerful welcoming wave, or anything of the sort.
The melancholy took over. I couldn't force a smile onto his face. I found myself once more drawing a sad and pained expression.
It's odd, but not entirely unreasonable, to see Angelo like this. He's a warm and friendly character, yet I often think he might feel oddly alone despite that. He's not making progress on his dreams, he doesn't really seem to have any sort of love life, and as time goes on he's probably wondering just what the hell the point of it all even is.
Even in such a pleasant setting as an historic district with old bars and those nice lights strung up over the road, he can't find much to smile about.
The state of the real world was slowly poisoning my art more and more as the 2020s dragged on and now it's inescapable.
I'm sorry. I let you down. I've let a lot of people down.
Also, I don't really have any "happy" music in my collection, despite having what I used to consider fairly varied tastes, most of my personal collection is some variety of rock or metal, so I have plenty of "angry" and "sad"... Although while drawing this one, I did skip the Breaking Benjamin since Nick Domnall isn't in the picture and Ghost is more of Nico Reynard and Dominic Mephitto's thing.
Not really sure what sort of music I'd associate with Angelo, honestly. Pretty sure I was just half-watching/half-listening to something on YouTube while drawing this, as I am prone to do.
Despite a few characters of mine having their "theme songs" and even entire playlists I associate with them (but never actually bother to assemble the songs I imagine as their "playlist" or "soundtrack" into any sort of playlist), it is actually fairly uncommon for me to put on any specific music just to draw any specific character, outside of a select handful.
