There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the helpless, confused and torn
And hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
Frustrated brother, see how he's tried to
Light his own candle some other way
See now your sister, she's been robbed and lied to
Still holds a candle without a flame
So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the lonely, the tired and worn
And hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
We are a family whose hearts are blazing
So let's raise our candles and light up the sky
Praying to our Father, in the name of Jesus
Make us a beacon in darkest times
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, deceived and poor
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world
Take your candle, and go light your world
A song I heard when I was in high school. I was part of a group at my church called the Appalachia Service Project. It was a group of high school students and a few adults. We would meet up a couple times a month over the course of a year you prepare ourselves for what was to come in the summer. When summer came around we rented vans and packed up our building tools. We spent one week in the Appalachia region fixing homes for families in dire need of it, but could not afford to do it themselves. Hence the song. We are the candle, lighting thiers and guiding them to the light. Spiritual I know, but I love this song :3

That's not really the point of it. More or less it's the fact that someone, that they don't even know, took the time off to help them when they need it the most.
The last year I went it was a familly. A mom, dad, two girls and one boy. Because they lived in a two room trailer on the face of a cliff, the boy, was to be taken into custody of the state. By law (i could be wrong though), in the state of kentucky, siblings of the opposite sex can not share rooms. We had to build an addition to the trailer. A week of hard work from four teenagers and two adults, we had a huge majority of the addition completed, only to be finished by another group of teens from another church the following week. So it really isn't a matter of spirituality for the family, but the fact that the family could stay together.
The job of the ASP Teens is to make living conditions safe and keeping families together. The teens themselves recive the satisfaction of making a difference, THEY are the ones that gain the spirituality just as much as the families they're helping, getting what they need to survive in thier mostly remote homes.

That is a very commendable thing you did. But from a Godly point of view, taking care of their physical needs without taking care of their spiritual needs doesn't benefit the family, as the bible says man does not survive on bread alone but from every word coming from God. But I assume you did try to preach to them.
