Some fond memories with Gummibears art and I do remember Gritti/Gritty from the other clan of Gummibears who had a few appearances, the Barbic Woods clan who had more of a grudge against humans and had lost their magic and technology. I remember there was an episode where Gritti had released a flock of sheep though came to regret his actions later.
This could perhaps have been his punishment so to speak, tied up for a time to think about his actions and maybe reflect that not all humans are a threat. Possibly he's also been 'threatened' with hugs in an effort to mellow him out.
