ah, I believe this should help; Brony (pl. bronies) is a term used to describe the fan community of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. It was coined on 4chan's /co/ board. "Brony" — a portmanteau of "bro" (someone you like, someone cool) and "pony" — while originally referring to the male audience, is now regarded as gender-neutral.
This term is usually applied to people who became fans after following the 2010 show Friendship is Magic. Those who had been My Little Pony fans from past generations may not have likely picked up the term "Brony" to apply for themselves. Many retro My Little Pony online communities have yet to pick up the trend on the term.
The Hub commercial 'Equestria Girls' specifically mentions Bronies.

It takes a very masculine man to love ponies. Lesser men quake at the pink, avert their eyes from the rainbows, clutch their ears at the catchy songs, and scream in fear and horror at what is presented to them.
They are, as I said, lesser men.
Real men? We accept the pink. We adore the rainbows. We sing the songs, and we will hug the adorable ponies. Why? Because a real man does not concern himself with trivia such as "it's girly."
