This was a delightfully fun project to work on. Okay, story time:
--
In the world of Beastars, a young lioness has shown themselves to be a bite risk towards other carnivores. Her aggression only seemed to manifest around other carnivores, and around herbivores, she was as docile as a house cat. Determining that they were not a risk to the most at-risk group of the population, the lioness was deemed safe enough for society, provided she followed a mandate to wear a muzzle whenever they left their home.
But walking around as a large carnivore in a muzzle, deeming herself a bite-risk and therefore dangerous, made it difficult for the lioness to integrate properly in society as she became an adult. The years of schooling were behind her, and the understanding nature of an integrated classroom faded into something society at large could not replicate. Herbivores avoided her, despite her gentle nature towards them, while the more undesirable carnivores took an interest in the muzzled lion - where her aggression would flare and get her into trouble.
A tigress happened upon her in the aftermath of fighting in the streets - a tigress that did not see the muzzle as anything to be fearful of. She became the only carnivore the lion did not snarl at, and the tigress, in a way, became the lion's handler. The lioness, in turn, protected the tiger, whose fans often pestered her. She, it seemed, was some renowned dancer.
The two's relationship quickly progressed, and the tender affection between two large carnivores - one deemed dangerous by society - came with a fair share of distaste and disgusted glances. But the two would not be dissuaded. And one day, when the lion's hunger for the tiger grew too strong, the tiger decided: why not? What harm could teasing a predator be?
She pulls the lion into an alleyway, and steals a moment with her lover, where society cannot see.
--
Anyway, this is an embodiment of the feeling of rebellion I hold towards the new year, and the new US administration. Queer people will always exist, regardless of what other people think about it. I will steal moments with my lover, I will find my slivers of joy, even if I must take them in the shadows.
