That little boy being scared of butterflies reminds me of myself when I was young.
Moths scared me for an embarrassingly long time too.

The can be especially spooky with their flappy-ness especially when they come out at night!!!!

Heh. I was never scared of butterflies myself, but I distinctly recall being unnerved by crane flies and especially large dragonflies when I was about six or seven years old

Crane flies still give me the hee-bees sometimes lol

I have this very clear memory of going camping with Dad and his brothers in Yosemite on a warm summer evening. I was standing in the tent looking out at the forest night, listening to the crickets. The tent had a transparent netting bug screen that was up, so the bugs couldn't get in, and my face was right up against it. And right then, a gargantuan crane fly buzzed right up to the other side of the screen because it apparently wanted to get in. It probably wasn't as big as I remember it, but I was a lot smaller then and kidbrain is funny with memories, so I recall it looming huge and buzzing loudly, little glints of light on its dark compound eyes as it went BZZZZZT BZT BZT in my face. Let me in, tiny human. I shrieked and fell back onto the tent floor, and Dad had to come see what the matter was. It's weird how something so unsettling is still a fun memory to think about.

I do remember the first time a butterfly tried really hard to land on me. It was bigger than my hand and I was not having it. We were both unharmed. Sorry little guy, I didn't understand the assignment.

Yes! Our school program had us raise butterflies from caterpillars. Very miraculous.

I have a really vivid memory of butterflies from when I was little. I was at a playground near my local dam with my dad, late afternoon in August I believe, and we saw just the hugest flock of monarchs I've ever seen in my life fly by around us. Was a short but breathtakingly beautiful little moment, one of those ones that'll be with me forever and always bring me back to happier times.
