Well yes, in part is because it is aimed to young girls target audience. but is also scinetifically accurate in that amongst horse herds the female greatly outnumber males, generally just ONE male and many females(like Lions), BUT dislike lione the chief of the herd is not the Stallion, is a Mare, called "dominant" Mare, "lead" Mare or "Boss" Mare, that eldest and more experienced of the herd. Is kinda weird and funny how THAT is actually a fact that the toon go right(I think accidentally).
And yet I still love FiM for reason that excape me right now...perhpas because is actually funny?
