From Chaper 2

Link got up, grabbed a brush and began working his way through the tangles, an amusing look of concern on his face as he picked apart his hair.
When Link was done he began to braid it again "Here, just let me do it, when you braid it yourself it comes out all crooked." she said seating herself on the bed behind him and taking his hair into her hands before he could even comply.
While Zelda braided his hair she paused as her attention was brought to the large scar on his shoulder, then to another scar that went the full length of his back, and more down his arms...Zelda then looked at the scar that bothered her the most, the one at the side of his throat...she was reminded yet again, about why Link always wore long sleeved shirts with a high collar.
Link reached back and put his hand over hers "That life is behind me now." the hero said, their bond was so close that he knew just what she was thinking "I have no plans on adding to my collection of scars." he said teasingly as Zelda put her arms around him and rested her chin on his shoulder.

Outside of my fic I am not much of a ZeLink-er because the pairing has no real meaning to it in the game...But I gave it meaning.

Upon Link's return from Termina he was quite battle worn and had a dark outlook on life.

It was Zelda who pulled him out of this, she taught Link how to be a kid again. (PS if items stay with you when jumping time I decided scars can stay too. OH speaking of scars...I fell in lava a lot when playing OoT...hence why I gave Link one fully scarred foot)
Without her intervention, Link would have become a melancholy hermit with no interest in living.

I approach their relationship in a more platonic sense vs a romantic sense, they always know what the other is thinking, they are happiest when together, they complete each other's life, etc.
