Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Gryphon!
Creepy zombie gryphon says hello!
My second entry for Gryphon Artist United's fictional gryphon contest. I wasn't planning on doing a second entry, but I had this idea in my head and couldn't resist doing it.
Back in ancient times when I was a little girl, the "Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark" book series were very popular. The stories in that book were fun, but I think it's the illustrations in that book that kept me interested. They were creepy, grainy, dark and scary... and I loved them! Even today, I think they're among my all time favorite book illustrations.
Ah tabarnak, I tried to emulate those drawings, I really did... but I don't think I could ever do justice to the awesome illustrations in those books.
If you aren't familiar with those books, go look them up. You won't be sorry.
Scary Stories books written by Alvin Schwartz
Illustrations in that book done by Stephen Gammell
This book series features dolls skinning people alive, spiders laying eggs in people's faces, girls raised by wolves and rabid rats among other things. You know... for kids!
