AFTERWORD
5 years 5 months and 3 days.
That's how long it has been from the day I uploaded the first page on Furaffinity to the last page on Patreon.
It's hard to believe that I have been working on Captive for 5 whole years. I remember that I started drawing this comic one night after I'm done with some homework when I'm still studying in university, thinking that this is just gonna be a short 30 pages typical furry porn comic that I drew for fun. Ever since then I've gotten a full time job, live through 2 years of COVID, moved to new places, and gone through many ebb and flow of life. And all the while this comic and its characters grew alongside me.
As I click on the 'upload' button, I can't help but feel...melancholic to see Gervic and Vlagg's story come to a conclusion here. Despite them being fictional characters, it feels like I'm saying goodbye to a bunch of old friends. Even while I have plans to bring them back as cameo in future comics, it will probably be like having a reunion with old high school friends, you know? It just don't feel the same anymore.
Gervic, Vlagg, Herinn, Zudrec, Cobby, Bob, Jokann, these bunch of characters sure did came together to create an interesting 568 pages long story. Sure, there are a lot of things in this comic that I wish I can change for the better, be it to elaborate on a certain plot points (especially part 2), writing better dialogue (I know my english is kinda awkward, thanks to all who corrected my grammatical errors) or just improving on my art style in general. But seeing how this comic turns out, I think I wouldn't have it any other way, flaws and all.
What surprises me the most is not how much the characters had grown throughout the story, or how the plot line has changed as the story goes. It's the fact that there are so many of you readers that genuinely enjoyed my comic. Even now, I still can barely believe that my silly little comic somehow garnered a following, let alone managed to get support on Patreon and Kofi. I truly enjoy reading all your comments on my pages (yes, including the critics) and I really appreciate the feedbacks I get from you guys.
Much like my comic, this afterword has gone on for a lot longer than I intended. So from the bottom of my heart, I wish to say a heartfelt 'Thank You'. Thank you for reading my comic and an extra thank you to all those that supported me on Patreon and Kofi, and I wish y'all will enjoy my future works. Once again, thank you to all you readers.

What an amazing ending for this comic.
Was a pleasure to follow the evolution and the struggles that those characters has to go through, the sacrifice they had to make to reach to their happiness at this point.
Thanks you for all the time and effort you put inside this comic and characters ^w^
Hope we'll be able to see those two from time to time around your page too :D

There's still a surprise waiting for you from me, big brother. I decided to write a review of your work. And by the way, the picture of this page is the wallpaper on my phone. As well as Vlagg's Happy New Year greetings. Thank you, Val. I'm proud to be your reader. And rest assured, I'm not leaving you anywhere.
I'm not surprised at all, I've been there. Most often, when stories are impactful and the characters take shape, they shift in unexpected ways and become more "real" than we sometimes imagine them to be, even after all the trauma.
This comic was a big deal for me. I got to study both the author and the comic in more of a direct way than I thought. It was great seeing the evolution of the art style from the first edition to the more defined and thought out features.
I can't wait to see what future endeavors hold for you, but I know for certain that you're going to be fine. Keep on going, no matter what, and find out the meaning of what you want to do.
Thank you so much, Vju79.

Thank you for your support through the years of me making this comic. I do enjoyed reading your comments btw, and I'm glad that you stuck around to the end.
Looking back to my early pages, I am also quite surprised to see how much I have changed in terms of artstyle and the general direction this story has gone.
Anyway, I'm starting my next comic soon so I will be glad if you enjoyed that as much as you did with this comic.

I don't remember when I started watching this comic, but it doesn't feel real seeing this come to an end. Especially cuz I do remember seeing that e621 user who was err... critical about Gervic's path from part 3 onward. But you've gotten better overtime and you've captivated an audience for whatever you do next.
Wow 5 years already ? Time flies super fast for sure, this was an interesting comic to read with a lot of different characters / stories / events and all, there was always something that made me wonder what would happen next, who's gonna die or live and all. This was a pleasure to read tbh and congrats with the huuuuuuuuge amount of time and work you spent making this comic ^w^
Haha and all this started from a supposedly short porn comic. Tbh the story only really expanded to multiple characters and different storylines by the end of part 1 where I introduced Gharn for a "crossover" with my first comic "ride the wave".
And thanks a lot for reading this comic!
And thanks a lot for reading this comic!
Congratulations on finishing the comic! I can't count anymore how many times I was disapointed by comics left abandonned, awesome comics beginning with 4 or 5 pages and then nothing anymore, feels like nobody wants to make good comics anymore... or at least not accessible oustide of patreon and such.
You made an awesome comic, you held on a stable upload rate and for so long, so many pages, and I loved reading it, thank you! I'll be waiting for your next works :3

I can understand why some artist abandoned their comic, after all I do hit many creative blocks while writing the story. It sure takes planning and perseverance to carry such a long term project all the way to the end and depending if they're studying or working, it certainly demands the sacrifice of time and energy that artists may not have.
Anyway, thank you for sticking with this comic to the end!

Thank you for making this comic and keeping it going for so long. It was a wild ride, no pun intended. I love a happy ending. Also like how this kind of keeps to my idea of "The best revenge is living your best life." as while yes Bob got what was coming to him at Gervic's hands, but the fact Gervic gets to walk off into the sunset with his love, free of Bob's torment. Gervic may not be his original self at the start, but he ends up happier at the end of the tunnel, which was his ordeal. It is the best way to overcome such events. A wholesome ending is the best ending for protagonists in my mind, and I'm glad Gervic and Vlagg got theirs. Thank you.
Thank you for such a wonderful comic. It has been a wild ride and I am going to miss all of the characters, but 5 years is a long time, and I’m proud of you for sticking with it. I’ve seen so many projects go the way of the dodo and having one reach its completion is a breath of fresh air.

A good friend of mine once told me that he doesn't like good endings, they don't give a feeling of... completion, finality, he said. But... that's the main thing about a good ending, isn't it? The fact that the story doesn't actually end, it continues to move, develop and live like it's heroes, but somewhere there in the background, far from our sight, giving us a sense of hope, hope that everything will be fine for the heroes, because they definitely EARNED it. And THAT'S WONDERFUL. It's a shame these thoughts didn't occur to me back then, I could have told him. Where is he now?
.....
Anyway. Thank you Vju. Truly. For all your work, for the time spent, for the memories, experiences, hopes, for the fact that your work has become a part of life for some (3 years of watching this furry comics, yeah). THANK YOU.

How I see it is that this ending is for this particular period of their life, as in they both lived through the war and their story with it has concluded. But with this ending means their story of living together as a couple is just beginning.
Anyhow, thank you for enjoying my work all these years!

What a wild ride it has been!~ Definitely been enjoying it throughout, and it's nice to have seen your art improve through it too :3
So thank you for putting in all that work and showing it to us, and those kind words at the end!~ It's.. gonna feel a bit weird to not have this comic to look forward to, hah~
Happy holidays to you Vju <3

I think this is my 10th time coming back to read this comic and every time I read it, it just hits me how good it is all over again. It truly is a beautiful piece of work and it shows very much how hard you've worked on it. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch this journey grow and come to an end thank you for this amazing story.
