I made this as a dedication to the Christmas Truce of 1914, an event that in my opinion doesn't get the attention it deserves as it is a wonderful moment in history. he Christmas Truce of 1914 mostly occurred between both British and German troops, though ceasefires did happen along most of the trenches with the other nations, with some sectors lasting in peace until almost New Years 1915. I also did a poem a few years back which I have also placed down below also dedicated to the Christmas Truce, I hope you guys like the drawing and the poem and if you guys are interested in learning more about the Christmas Truce, I recommend you check out the video done by Extra Credits and also the song done by Sabaton, both of which I will put down below.
1914, the powers of the Entente and the Central
Fight one another, in the name for spoils
For the Great War no one understood it's ventral
And no one one was prepared for the definition of the toils
The ceaseless blast of weapons fire and artillery paused
As the shift of white snow had taken the air
No one was prepared for the peace come to caused
Nor afterword the fanfare
Soldiers on both sides saw each other as brothers in arms
They puts aside their weapons and welcomed each other
For Christmas had come and with it the unneeded to give harms
A truce between both sides occurred up and down the line in speech uttered
For a brief moment in the Great War
Peace had been achieved not by pen nor by sword
But by the words that brotherhood had swore
The ranks of both boot and badge exchanged to thy traditions restored
From both sides angels sung
As carols and chorus of good faith
Stole the air rather then the shells of Verdun
Over the course of the light and the snow the men prayed to be released from swathe
Love and brotherhood had beaten the machine
That proof that humanity was better
Unfortunately though the darkness would intervene
And the hearts of gathered would flutter
The Christmas Truce would end
But not before brothers would find each other
For masses of sadness and grief would attend
Regardless of flag, father and mother
New bonds were forged and with it
Souls of the trench would weep
For now they had to fight
The brothers they met and would lay to sleep
For a moment the true fires of humanity
Were shown through the cold reality
The truce held in the hearts of those who refused the brutality
To show the future generations that even in war that brief peace was not a frailty
Finally the snow stopped
Under where the cross would stand
The war resumed under the guise of those at top and propped
The memory would not come to fade and in time would become a beacon of new understand
Rifles and cannon began to sing once more
With heavy hearts as brother fought one another
For a war they no longer wished to fight nevermore
May peace finally lay those to rest for they had shown where those hearts stand together
