Chef AJ back at it again at Christmas Kreme! Have you been wanting to make a unique holiday treat for the family and friends yet unable to decide what to go with? Well, I have an option to consider: A little something simply called Festive Squares! These easy-to-make dessert bars are perfect for anyone with an insatiable sweet tooth, and it makes for a lovely addition to any holiday get-together's snack assortment or dessert set!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups of graham cracker crust mix
- 1/2 cup of butter or margarine
- 1/2 tsp of brown sugar
- 1 300ml can of sweetened condensed milk
- 1 1/2 tsp of shredded coconut
- 1 cup of Rice Krispies
- 1/2 cup of mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup of milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of Christmas M&Ms
- 1 Terry's Chocolate Orange
- 1 bottle of honey
Recipe:
1. Put the crust mix, butter/margarine and brown sugar in a bowl together and mix first with a wooden spoon and then with your hands until well combined.
2. Press the crust evenly into a 9x9 square baking pan when finished, covering the bottom and partway up the sides, then place it in the fridge to chill for at least 1 hour or up to 24 hours in advance.
3. Preheat the oven to about 325 degrees F.
4. Roughly chop enough of the chocolate orange to fill 1/3 cup, then set it aside.
5. Pour the sweetened condensed milk into the chilled crust, covering the bottom entirely
6. Mix the Rice Krispies, shredded coconut and chocolate chips together in a bowl, then pour them evenly into the pan.
7. Layer on the M&Ms, mini marshmallows and chocolate orange pieces, then drizzle some honey over the whole thing as the final touch before baking.
8. Carefully bring the pan over to the oven without disturbing its contents too much and bake for about 45-50 minutes. You'll know it's ready when the sweetened condensed milk has solidified and the marshmallows are golden brown and crispy.
9. Take the pan out of the oven and let it sit until fully cooled.
10. Slice up the individual bars, arrange them on a plate or put them in an airtight container, and serve right away or store in the fridge.
And there you have it, a delightfully chewy and super-sweet festive dessert bar for the whole family, built just tough enough to last til New Year's! Just be ready for a bit of a jaw workout if you eat 'em chilled!
